Re: [qubes-users] Re: Lenovo G505s with Coreboot and Qubes R4-rc3 fails to boot

2018-11-03 Thread Matt B
Very nice! It sounds to this newb as if it's hacky as hell, but it's nice to finally know what the problem was! Have you also dropped a line to the coreboot mailing list? Even though I ordered a dGPU G505s I got shipped one without, so sadly I can't add this to the ifixit I plan to finish this

Re: [qubes-users] Re: Lenovo G505S Coreboot

2018-05-04 Thread Andrew B
Got it. I understand I need to build the coreboot image and flash it. However still a little confused on how exactly to implement the microcode update? I assume its still not a part of the latest coreboot. Was it these two files I am looking for changes in?

OK, just to clarify, if I am to build the coreboot image, I need to do that on the G505s by say running Debian or Ubuntu (presumably could use a Live disc/USB) or similar and building the image as shown here? https://www.coreboot.org/Board:lenovo/g505s#Building_a_coreboot_image Then I take the

2018-04-11 Thread Andrew B
Sorry to beat a dead horse. I am sure folks here are sick of answering hardware questions. So I understand the dev team currently seems to like the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 5th gen. I assume best to get with 16GB RAM (max) and an SSD. I assume you get with Windows10 or 7 and wipe it clean

[qubes-users] Qubes 4.0 on Dell XPS 13 9360 no longer boots anything!

2018-04-04 Thread Scott B
I decided over the long weekend to install Qubes 4.0 on my laptop after realizing that I could set up a dual-boot. I know this isn't very security conscious, but I was more concerned whether the hardware would be supported. It turns out I can't use my external monitor and usb keyboard, but

[qubes-users] Upgraded to 3.2, lockscreen accepts ANY password

2017-03-30 Thread tom . b
Both the xscreensaver and the i3lock accept any password. I have not manually changed the files in /etc/pam.d/ but note some have the "nullok" option. I've run tail -f against /var/log/* and /var/log/*/* but no changes occur after locking and unlocking the screen. Expected behaviour: the
