I understand security is the priority, but I too think the current state of
qubes is a mess. You make a good point about the future and Q5-Q6, and maybe
you are both right. Besides surfing and emails, as an end-user I may have to
wait for a few years to have a mature QubesOS.
I too cannot evaluate the code, but qubes-manager, system-tray, widgets paired
with so many bugs is not a even close to any early beta version I would use as
a daily OS. I will wait, for a few years, but that's really a highly optimistic
and rather long-term speculation while dreaming about Qubes-IOT and
Qubes-Cloud. All while implementing a new admin-api which roadblocked an
already delayed update of QubesOS for new fedora versions and leaving qubes
with half baked widget solutions in a bug-riddled mess.

What about Q4, are there downloads ready or does the build process work (and
which versions)?

It's actually not the sole reason. And I'm glad for everyone who qubes does
work for. It's a great software. But having the tools providing the means for
people
to 'make' it work may be a positive thing.

That's the point. Since I cannot write one myself,
I stopped using qubes because my use case depends on it.
Some users may only ever use firefox and nothing else, they wouldn't mind
stripping every other (cli)tool from qubes. I see no point in making up lowest
possible denominators of useability.
Qubes has a unique architecure of integrating virtual machines. If there are no
proper tools to make it possible for a user to adjust this system to his
specific
use case withouth the need to write a program, some people may stop using it
(also last I checked there wasn't a proper documentation on the new commands).
I don't think that's good or bad and maybe I'm the only one who's going back to
a
different OS.

I personally won't upgrade since there is no qubes-manager, for reasons already
mentioned here and on github. Is there a possibility of people doing a fork of
qubes-manager for 4.0?
@Sergio Matta The pictures look really promising (I miss templates/net-vm used
and ordering by color was extremely useful).
Is there a possibility to make that an actual open (updated) window on the
desktop (no popup)?

Same for me. It worked after a lot of restarting and changing settings.
Sys-firewall started after I set initial ram higher. The others on debug mode
with no network-vm set in settings. Not immediately though, try it, even change
templates, and restart the templates a few times.
I didn't get the qrexec logs from the qubes-applet and didn't bother to check
further since it worked after several retries.

You can enter a Qubes Rescue Mode via your installer USB Boot Menu. Maybe this

;) Well then. Is win7 a HVM?
Have you created it with : qvm-create --hvm win7 ?

Btw. you have to adjust mem, vcpu, net-vm to sys-firewall etc. Most probably
you have to edit a copy of the /var/lib/qubes/appvms/win7/win7.conf file for
use in a --custom-config= option when starting your win7 VM, but just try first
to make a fresh HVM:

qvm-create --hvm win7

then do your

qvm-start win7 --cdrom=sys-usb:/home/user/Downloads/win7.iso

and make sure the win7.iso is really exactly in sys-usb in the folder
/home/user/Downloads/ .

Use the command from dom0:

qvm-start |start a vm
win7 | name of the vm to start
--cdrom=/path/to/isofile.iso | the vm has a cdrom with an isofile in the
folder /path/to/

Now use the following

qvm-start win7 --cdrom=vmname:/path/to/isofile.iso |vmname here is the name of
the vm where your iso is (e.g. sys-usb) and the /path/to/isofile.iso in that vm.
There is a "cheatsheet" with the qubes commands at github
https://github.com/Jeeppler/qubes-cheatsheet/blob/master/qubes-cheatsheet.md
