Just get a T430 and replace the various you facing components like the
keyboard, armrest, cover etc so it looks new. This is guaranteed to work
and is easy to upgrade.

If you want you can later install coreboot/mecleaner

(I don't think he really wants to do coreboot etc and its best not to
dry up the limited G505s availability for those who won't appreciate
what makes it special)

I wouldn't recommend two of the most dishonest companies in the
computing business even dell looks ethical compared with them.

That has most of the warning flags of a computer that _won't_ work well
(if at all) with either Linux or Qubes:

* Nvidia
* Consumer/gaming (not business)
* Windows-or-OSX-only in the specs

When provisioning for an open source OS, avoid the above factors!
Lenovo, Dell, HP, Purism, System76 do sell Linux-specced laptops; for
the brands that separate consumer/gaming/business like the first three,
try to stick with business models.

If Nvidia is an 'extra' in addition to AMD/Intel integrated graphics
then its probably OK; just don't expect to use the Nvidia GPU. That
company is secretive and has a poor relationship with open source
operating systems. OTOH, AMD and Intel offer plenty of choices that are
compatible because those companies are much more cooperative.

With that said, the HCL has been due for an update, so I would also
search the forums for recent posts with 'HCL' in the title.

To have any sort of guarantee, you need the EXACT model number that's
listed in the HCL. Make sure you look all the way to the right and click
on any links in the Remark and Credit columns. This will describe any
workarounds needed. Some can be painful to maintain.

Chances are pretty good that models similar to one on the HCL will work
too; for example, if the only difference is screen size or CPU speed.

You mentioned CPU models, but what is the Dell model # of the laptop
you're looking at? Try to find one with only integrated graphics and
available with Linux. If buying Intel, might want to look for something
with ME disabled:

Not finding a lot on that model on either HCL or list.
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/processors/core/i5-processors/i5-8250u.html
says it supports the technologies Qubes 4.0 uses, but sometimes
manufacturers don't implement them properly so they still don't work.
You could maybe see if they have a good return policy and try to install
Qubes, then return if it doesn't work.

Thank you for the reply. So why is it a bad idea to install Qubes in a MacBook
Air? I mean is it because it’s not possible to install Qubes in a MacBook Air
or because it won’t function properly?

Right, people seem to have a lot of trouble installing Qubes on those.
Try searching this list for "Macbook air" and look at posts in 2018 and
newer for Qubes 4.0.

they said brand new ones are more safe) and reading the page where it says
about the minimum requirements didn’t help me much. Would this MacBook Air be
ok?
https://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/apple-macbook-air-13-3-2017-10165823-pdt.html
I’m only planning to use this laptop only for Qubes/Whonix and light browsing
such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, no gaming, video streaming or anything
like that.

Macbook Airs seem to be challenging to install Qubes on, from posts to
this list. The safest laptop by some criteria is probably a Corebooted
Lenovo G505s, but it's only available used and you'd have to flash the
firmware yourself with a hardware flasher. It would meet your needs. If
you're set on a new one, find one that is Linux compatible, then search
for reports on it or similar models on the Qubes HCL and in this mailing
list.
