Hi
Does anyone know what the /qubes-vm-type qubesdb key represents in R4 ?
The documentation [1] says it's the same as the 'type' field in
qvm-prefs, but there's no such field in R4. I thought it would be the
'klass' (sic) field but:
$ qvm-prefs sys-firewall klass
AppVM
$ qubesdb-read -d

I had to reread the thread three times to realize that qvm-prefs and
qubes-prefs were different. :)

Check here. It's for R3.2 but might help. Skip the part about updating the
kernel, 4.0 already has it.

Thanks for the response. I tried the grub method on 3.2 but couldn't boot the
fedora-26 vm. Installed every kernel part (4.14-16.200) and set the kernel in
vm settings to pvgrub2 but it wont boot ("Cannot execute qrexec-daemon!").
4.0rc4 same result. Any tips?

Major version chanves require wipe and install not upgrade such as 3.2 to 4.0.
Now 3.0 thru 3.2 could be done upgrade patg but honestly I think as
infrequently as new versions come out it worth doing a wipe and install fo
ensure a nice clean functioning install with no legacy fragments left
Finally solved the issue by reinstalling all kernel modules! (3.2, fedora-26,
4.14.16-200)

btw, is upgrading an existing Qubes install to a new version pretty much
simply downloading the new version and choosing an option for upgrading
existing installations? or is it more involved than that or even requires
a fresh install?
