They won't conflict, but I hope you'll find most extension developers bring their configuration into the new interface. I'm about to make it a bit easier to do that. There are a lot of advantages to that approach - eg. validation, selection and defaulting are all done for you - but you do lose the ad-hoc config-creation that the settings extension allows. will
