Might it be a problem in the definition of the PASSWORD field in the
SUBSCRIBERS table?
Perhaps you have defined it as CHAR(6) and it is appending white
space to the four-length fields... Should this be the problem
VARCHAR(6) should fix it.

Hi,
You should be able to write/directly into a dbfile using the dbm api
you can find in C (it should go with the operating system, or it
should be quite easily searchable), Perl... Look for DBM modules.
This way you shouldn't use the clumsy builddbm
