Have got an improved result through the use of my htc desire phone as a portable hotspot. The Phone acts as a wifi hotspot and the radio was able to connect to it as does the laptop hosting the squeezebox server. I have disabled the most of the background data services on the phone but it still

The Product most suitable for this is a Touch or SB3 (Classic) or the reciever. These have the soudquality expected for hifi especially the Touch it is really good. The 3,5 jack is mainly for headphones on the radio and it's probably not so hifi . I'm listening right now on par with a bad mp3
