Sorry to bump my own thread, but please could someone with appropriate
permissions confirm this bug on Bugzilla?
This is a very clear fault in the way the radio decides its regulatory
domain and -will- mean that, for some users, their Radio simply will
not connect to their router when they bring
Anyone wanting to try this, attached is the "wlan" file for the European
domain (channels 1-13). Just copy it to "/etc/init.d". You should make a
copy of your current wlan file first on your PC, although a factory
reset will reset this to the default, so you don't really need to
worry.

I've fixed it!
It is possible to set the regulatory domain when loading the driver. I
have edited the wlan file to the following:
Code:
#!/bin/sh
case "$1" in
start)
/usr/bin/logger -s "wlan: starting"
# Load wlan drivers
export WORKAREA=
At this risk of boring you, here is another test. I've embedded the
channel check inot the wlan script so it lists the available channels
immediately after the driver has loaded. See once we got 13 channels
twice in a row!
Code:
/etc/init.d$ /etc/init.d/wlan stop
root:
OK. Here is some concrete evidence of the problem.
I'm stopping and starting the wlan repeatedly, all within a few seconds
of each other. No reboots, no nothing, just stop the lan and start it
again. See on the second channel listing from the bottom I get 13
channels. All the other times 11!
Co
I guess it is still possible. It would not surprise me if some APs
broadcast the wrong regulatory domain info, especially if they
defaulted to US.

OK. Nice theory! I kinda liked that one! Now I'm stumped.

The only APs visible from here are a couple of BT HomeHub routers. It
seems unlikely that they are set to US. And in fact most of the time no
other APs are visible from where my Radio lives.

Definitely upgrade to 7.6.
I found this in some Atheros documentation for the wlan chipset that
sounds interesting!

Did the radio really upgraded to 7.6 firmware, I assume you tried a
factory reset to to see if something changes during setup .
There must be a bug somewhere or functionality so obscure that it might
as well be considered being a bug.

Hmm. Unfortunately I've tried 7.6 and it seems to make no difference
here.

Interesting! I'll try 7.6 tomorrow. It's hopeful. If 7.6 works it means
it's fixable, even if there is some special beta code that might need
to be moved across.

Rebooted 3 - 4 times still have 13 ch ?
Does not necesarilly mean that 7.6 fixes it, can be that the beta is
made to work everywhere for simplicity ? Does anyone from US have 1 -
13 ch on a 7.6 radio ?

Can you just try turning the radio on and off a few times to check you
always have channel 13? Full power down, but not factory reset. This
afternoon in testing I managed to get it to work two times in a row and
thought I might have fixed it, but then it didn't work again. It still

The good news is that this should also be easy to fix. If it really is
in the global regulatory domain and just needs its region code to be
set we could edit the "wlan" script ourselves and test (Of course most
would/should wait until the next proper update).
The problem is no matter how far I lo
I'll ssh to my radio when i get home, but I live in Sweden I'm I suposed
to have more than 1-11 then ?

Yeah I was planning on doing that once we have evidence. I will give it
another day to see if we can get a few more "data points"!

You should open a bug report in bugzilla too .
With all this info .
As it is fairly easy to reproduce .
Put a link to the bug nr in this tread and you can get some votes for
it, so that it gains traction and maybe a dev can see it.

The SB Touch asks for your locale during initial boot, but the Radio
does not. My Touch (set to UK locale) connects totally reliably to my
router using channel 13, as does my phone, lapto
