>From my side, I can't confirm that a router with a lower wifi standard would solve the problem. I tested it with a Huawei mobile hotspot and it only takes 10-20 minutes before the SBR connection is interrupted. The wifi icon is blue in this situation. When I restart, the SBR is reconnected. When the wifi icon is blue, there is no way to switch the connection. I ran the network diagnostics and it tells me that DNS resolution to mysqueezebox.com would not be possible. I think that this result is not valid, because as I said, after restarting SBR it works for a short time. When I connect via LAN, there are no problems. I tested it with both variants of firmware, the standard and the community firmware. The thing is very strange, because I didn't change anything in my network, no hardware, no firmware, it happened suddenly 2 weeks ago. My router does not support Wifi 6. I looked through the router manual posted earlier and there is nothing explicitly wifi6 or the ability to turn it off. Only SON. Since it is a isp provided device, it's options seem to be dumbed down to me. Agree (as I and others stated previously) that an older router could help. We don't know anything about neighbors or proximity of neighbors, that query has not been answered. Besides, RF power falls off over the square of the distance, so you should be able to use proximity to your router as a test to see if it's a neighbor. Similarly, if it is another router and you are trying to operate a good distance from yours, it could be troublesome. I had asked about neighbors, and I had suggested using an app to look for nearby networks, along with many other things that don't get followed up on. I feel strongly it is time to enter a process of elimination through testing, but until Phil tries these suggestions and relays results, we are just spinning our wheels. So at this point I think I'll just step aside until we start getting some feedback. Having said all that, I realize that we/he has been working for months on this (see all threads), and it can be very frustrating. There is no one right answer, and the radios seem to have a wifi Achilles heel. I wouldn't blame him at all for giving up. To paraphrase (from memory) he wants the radios to work like radios (portable). I can't recall exactly what he used, but it's in there somewhere :) I am not sure he ever tried wlanpoke, nor has he checked for wifi6 with his neighbors (to the best of my knowledge on either). Also, somewhere in the myriad of posts, I think he said the 4th radio behaves the same. In my opinion its time to either give up, or start swapping things. I have an extra radio that I have offered to send him, if he pays post to send it back. I can check it out on my network, have it play nonstop for a day, then send it out. That would tell us if it's radio or network. I even have a duet I can send. No extra touches tho ;) In that theme I also suggested an old router either bridged, or turn off his verizon radios. I am doing that with my asus routers, turning off the spectrum supplied modem/router radios (5 and 2.4). The one thing to remember is (from memory) he has a touch that doesn't disconnect. It's unique to radios. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radios will not connect to (Verizon)Wi-Fi
If the Wifi 6 standard is the problem, then a relatively easy solution is to bypass the Radio's internal Wifi with an external wifi to ethernet bridge (called client mode by TP-link). This can be done using the Vonets or TP-Link nano travel router, or similar device. This is my recommendation for Phil, and it will avoid trying to find settings in the Verizon router for a solution that may not work because the problem is from a neighbor's router using wifi6. Wlanpoke can help, but it is not a universal fix. (In my case, with wlanpoke, one of my Radio's drops the wifi connection once a week instead of multiple times a day.) It also requires some technical skills to install that not everyone may be comfortable doing. In his first post to this thread, it appears he did bypass the internal Wifi on two of the radios: "I have three of them working by using ethernet cables, One directly to the router and two using relay/boosters cabled to the radios." Phil needs to get one more for his fourth Radio and the problem should be solved. Before buying another, I recommended switching out the Radio not working with one that is working to verify the solution. Andy, my conclusion the Wifi6 standard is the problem is based upon a test I did with an ASUS router. I took my Radio and ASUS router to a location with no wifi interference. With Wifi6 active on the 2.4 GHz band, the Radio dropped its Wifi connection in minutes. With Wifi 6 on the 2.4 GHz band deactivated, the Radio worked fine for several days. I ask because Phil said he had to turn in his old router (which also had the problem), and on the new router, Phil already mentioned that he had SON disabled, and my previous post referenced the manual saying that SON "may" enable 802,11r. The one thing that has been asked but not addressed is Phil's proximity to neighbors. There are posts all over this forum where "radios suddenly stopped working" was traced back to a neighbor's new router and wifi6. To check for this possibility, one thing that has been suggested, but I am not sure if it has been tried - I use an android app called "wifi analyzer", I am sure there are iphone equivalents, where you can see the signal strength, channel, etc of all the networks in proximity, including your own, to see whats happening. I am very rural, so the answer for me is "not much" :). But I have used it for friends. I really feel for Phil, this has been an ordeal. Everybody is different, but when I get to this point in problem solving I start swapping things out. One thing that you can maybe help walk him through it Andy is to get an old basic router, connect it to the verizon router, put the verizon router in bridge mode (if you can) or just turn the verizon wifi radios off. Phil- If you had a G1100/G3100 Verizon router we pushed SON firmware to those a while back; I can't say exactly when (2019 is my guess, but again, the years are beginning to blur as I enter my mid-40s.) If the Radio has blue Wifi icon, then it is connected to the wifi network but not to a music server using either Logitech Media Server (LMS) [used to be called Slim Server, etc] on a local computer or connected to mysqueezebox.com (MySB.com). (I tested this on my Radio by tuning off LMS and the icon turned Blue.) If you have a red wifi icon then the Radio is not connected to the wifi network. If you are getting blue icon, then something else must be going on with the LMS connection to the network. Trying using MySB.com as the sever to listen to some internet radio and see if the connection is stable for a few days. If yes, look at your local LMS connection to the local network. If you have the red icon, then use ethernet connection to the local network. (Note: the Radio does not automatically switch to ethernet from wifi). If ethernet is stable for a few days, then you might have the dreaded Wifi 6 interference problem. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radios will not connect to (Verizon)Wi-Fi
Phil, Andy; Networking is not my strength, but I really don't think you can assume the issue is within your network/router. The reason I say this is because you had the problem (radio connection issues) before with your old router, and you really need to consider the proximity to other networks. It has been documented from several users in this thread, your other threads, and a few other threads that wifi6 can cause issues with the radio. Wifi6 can be your neighbor's network. However, let's talk about your last couple posts. Andy suggested setting your network security to WPA2/PSK instead of WPA3/WPA2. I also could not find reference to WPA2/PSK, but the manual says (page 24): -For your protection, your Fios Router is pre-set at the factory to use WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access II) encryption for your Wi-Fi network. This is the best setting for most users and provides security- Regarding Andy's suggestion of turning of fast roaming/802.11R, again, I found no specific reference to this option in the manual, but in the support post that Andy provided: -If the printer is old enough, _SON_may_be_enabling_a_feature_called_802.11r_(Fast_BSS_Transition)_ which allows for devices to quickly roam between wireless radios as well as access points (FiOS Network extenders) without much of an interruption. Older devices tend to break when 802.11r is enabled, and will either claim the network is a WPA2-Enterprise network, or be unable to authenticate despite showing the correct encryption type. Normally, you would want the option to disable 802.11r while leaving the rest of SON enabled.- I looked into SON. From this support post: https://forums.verizon.com/t5/Fios-Internet/New-feature-SON/td-p/888922 -The point of SON is to have the router switch a device to the 2.4 GHz band if the signal is weak. For example if a device is connected to the 5 GHz band and goes to far from the the router it will switch to the 2.4 GHz band which travels farther. And vice versa if the device comes closer to the router it will switch back to 5 GHz. Also SON is not unique to Verizon and has been around for years. Some devices might have issues with SON. If you have any connectivity issues you should turn it off. - So, it looks like it is smart to turn SON off if you are using your radios. A couple other points of clarity, first, the radios only operate on 2.4GHz, so 5GHz is irrelevant for the radios. Second "2.4GHz goes farther" is a generalization. Due to physics (that darn physics!) More of the 5GHz signal strength is absorbed by walls/objects, so you can say 2.4GHz will pass through walls/objects easier. 5GHz may provide an advantage in an area where there are lot of networks (neighbors) that might provide interference to your network. 2.4GHz can be more crowded. I am not saying that I know anything :), but for the above reasons, I'll use 5GHz for stationary, fairly line of site devices (TV, Desktop, Printers), and 2.4GHz for legacy devices (sb) and devices that move around (phone, tablets, laptops). I really think you need to look beyond your router being the problem. It might still be, but you need to consider some of the earlier suggestions in this and your previous threads. Phil, if you run out of options, I could ship you a known good radio (on my network) for you to test, and you could test and ship it back. I would just ask for the shipping charges returned. I'm in western new york. But, I am betting that since you have 4 radios all misbehaving, it's not the radios. By the way, still have your old router? OK; so a few things... WPA2/PSK Means... WPA2 is the security type you're using for authentication (don't worry about the acronym, you've selected the right one.) PSK means Pre-Shared Key. It's geek-speak for a word based password that Verizon (or you) selects as your WiFi Password. I know most of our newer routers have two unlinked works and a jumble of numbers. You can feel free to use that, or select your own, later. I did a brief read; it appears it's part of what they call SON... Or in simple terms, having a single network of 2.4 and 5, and letting the router do the work for you to sort the mess out. You can break them into two separate broadcasts, and do the work re-programming the router, or choose the path of hardwiring and/or access points. It's not complex, but based on your replies it may be deeper than your current knowledge set (not meant offensively; I know nothing about many things, ask my wife. :) ) Here's the actual manual for the device, poke around in it. If you feel comfy, I'm pretty sure it would ease your issues. You would have to select from the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz band (rule of thumb, 5 is faster, but has bad range. 2.4 is slower, older, and more crowded with other "stuff", but has better range), but I ran networks like that for a decade, and they ran just fine around the house.. Honestly, Google isn't bad for this. There's multiple levels of tutorials out there from basic to advanced on Networking, and you can find a video at your speed. I'd be happy to answer questions based on my experience with these devices, and basic stuff, but if we get deeper into router specific "where is that setting buried" kind of questions, the Internet is probably a lot smarter about it than I am... I have an old VZ router in the basement, and it's only doing it's job to feed my TVs with the guide, on demand, and handle multi-room DVR. I haven't accessed it's menus in a year or two... Apologies. Below is the full user manual for the device; it might be a good starting point for where stuff is located in the menus inside the router. https://www.verizon.com/supportresources/content/dam/verizon/support/consumer/documents/internet/fios-router-user-guide.pdf andybflo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=68321 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115982 ___ Radio mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Thankyou, Andy I'm up to my elbows in monkeys now, but soon I will try to find that info AND, make sense of all the mumbo-jumbo in your post that is foreign to me! :) I did play around with a couple of the radios and repeaters. I figured if the repeaters could get the info from the router and spew it out on ethernet, then perhaps if I paired the radios wifi to the repeaters, why wouldn't THAT work? Well I don't know why but with the two (different) repeaters and radios, it was a no-go. pfcs49's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=67076 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115982 ___ Radio mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radios will not connect to (Verizon)Wi-Fi
As an employee of the big red checkmark company above (I'm in Corp Finance, not remotely close to Tech Support), you have a few issues on your WiFi for that router. It's one of a handful of things, they'll all require you to do some Googling. Keep in mind, you're trying to mate a relatively new Actiontec product with a 10+ year old wireless chipset. We've had a lot of changes in the past few years. The biggest two I've found in new equipment is 802.11R and WPA3/WPA2 hybrid network security. I'm not sure where Actiontec buried each setting, but a quick Google search should find both for you. 802.11R could be labeled as Fast Handoff/Fast Roaming, it pre-fetches data as you move between nodes, and handles moving/offloading between WAPs in a theoretically faster manner than without it. I've got a relatively robust Ubiquiti network running around here, and I've shut it off. No performance delta across multiple buildings in my home and inside/outside. I'm sure if I were in say an arena, with hundreds of APs it might help, but with a residential network that is heavily used, it offered no noticable performance gain for the headaches it caused. My Boom and Radios (which you have) stopped connecting; the Wifi chipset in there (An Atheros AR2413A/AR5005G/AR5BMB5 Mini PCI) can be had with firmware that supports 802.11R, but bluntly, it isn't worth it. Ask how I know... Here are a few breadcrumbs for you, Google around, it should get you the info you need: https://forums.verizon.com/t5/Fios-Internet/Printer-Gives-an-Authentication-Error-when-SON-is-Active/td-p/902850 If I were you, I'd switch you r network security to WPA2/PSK, from WPA3/WPA2, and turn off Fast Roaming/802.11R. The re-enable each one, one at a time, until the radios break again. You've found your problem. Actiontec also has really robust logging inside the router; poke around in there and read them. It will tell you precisely when/where the unit is having issues handshaking with the Radio and Boom. My issues have never been with WiFi6, it's always fallen back to a the aforementioned protocols above. Good luck. andybflo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=68321 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115982 ___ Radio mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radios will not connect to (Verizon)Wi-Fi
As an employee of the Big Red check company above... It's the either the same issue I have on Ubiquiti; turn off 802.11R or FastRoaming. Or, you're trying to use a hybrid WPA3/WPA2 key. Neither is understood by the dinosaur WiFi tech in the older I'm not sure where Actiontec buried the setting (I'm in Corp Finance, not remotely close to Tech Support. :) ), the radios will play with a device that broadcasts WiFi6, but the Boom, Classic, and Radio won't play with the 802.11R protocol specifically. I did get a chipset off eBay for my Boom with an updated firmware for 802.11R (It's an Atheros AR2413A/AR5005G/AR5BMB5 Mini PCI in the Boom and Radio), but FastRoaming causes so many issues with older electronics it's not worth the (slightly) expedited handoff between mesh nodes. A quick Google finds this. Turn it off; I'd bet your stuff will magically work. https://forums.verizon.com/t5/Fios-Internet/some-devices-not-connecting-to-SON/td-p/885613 https://forums.verizon.com/t5/Fios-Internet/Printer-Gives-an-Authentication-Error-when-SON-is-Active/td-p/902850 Actiontec (the people who actually make the routers) gives pretty robust logging; take a look at what the logs are telling you. It'll let you know where the handshake/authentication failure is. As a start, I'd switch back to WPA2PSK, and turn off fast roaming. Then re-enable each, one at a time, see where it fails. andybflo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=68321 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115982 ___ Radio mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

You know how to set it up and it is working. Before getting another device, I recommend testing the fourth Radio you are having problems with by swapping it for one that is working with the repeater. Don't forget the Radios do not automatically switch to ethernet when you connect a cable. Changing network settings on the Verizon router may not be successful if a neighbor's router is using Wifi6. Installing wlanpoke requires more technical skill, and it will not eliminate possible interference. Either of those options will require more effort and frustration. Phil; Earlier @P Nelson suggested that "WiFi 6" is a problem for the radios. It could be your router is using it, or it could be that a close neighbor's router is using it. When I suggested wlanpoke in my previous post, it's because this helps address the problem with wifi6. Here is the explanation of what wlanpoke does https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?114775-Simplified-instructions-for-Squeezebox-Radio-Wi-Fi-fix-(wlanpoke)&p=1032068&viewfull=1#post1032068 Also, if you might find solace in reading other's frustration: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/zenwifi-ax-xt8-cannot-connect-squeezebox-radios-logitech.67859/ I have a couple simple ideas: First, are you in a rural or urban environment? In other words, do you have neighbors? If you do have other networks in close proximity, it could be their router that is causing the drops. I use an android app called "wifi analyzer" to see relative signal strength of networks at various positions (where you have the radios placed). Maybe someone can recommend an apple app. Second, I know nothing about macs, but if you have LMS on a mac laptop (mac book?), take the laptop and the radio to a friends house, log into their network and see how things go. You could also follow @P Nelson's advice to contact Verizon about wifi 6. You could also try the wlanpoke, it has helped others @Robb is right, if you want to try to get this working, you have to take the time to try out our suggestions and answer our questions. No hurry though, take your time, we'll be here. A final thought is I have a radio that I could send you to try, but I will bet that it is a waste of time and postage. Since you have 4, including the one in storage that have the same problem, it's probably your network compatibility. All four radios work on Ethernet. It doesn't matter what "range booster" "repeater" you use, I think. They receive the wireless/wifi signal and rebroadcast it as well as having an ethernet port for hardwiring. I am using two different ones. They are less than twenty bucks each. So two radios are on wired-repeaters, and one is har-wired to the router. The fourth radio gathers dust. Clarification on wifi: when the problem started, suddenly the radios would lose connection w/wifi. They always? needed to be rebooted in order to work again and then within 24-36 hours would have lost connection again. @P Nelson and @AB; it very well may be wifi 6 with the new router, but Phil had this same problem with his old old router (pre wifi6) and old mac. Take a look at the thread he referenced (I think you both participated), where he joined the "three radios lost connection" thread. It think it's important to read the history because last time we threw allot of stuff at him and it might have made his head spin, and I think frustration set in. I can understand how this can happen on this forum sometimes :) Its also (as you know) difficult to diagnose over a message board. This new thread is a continuation of trying to get his gear in order, alot has been fixed. It was put on pause while he was awaiting a new mac. Now he's back and everything is working except the radios on wifi. They work via ethernet and with repeaters as he stated. I am not in the best position to help, as my radios work (and I have quite a few, maybe 8 :o), but I have read that wlanpoke has help others with similar issues. One desperation fall back is I am in NY and he is in NJ. I could send him a working radio to test and/or he could send me one of his to test here, but we would be spending $ with USPS/UPS/etc :). Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radios will not connect to (Verizon)Wi-Fi
A search for Verizon routers yielded the following link which shows a router that looks like your picture. https://www.verizon.com/home/router/ The link says it is WiFi6 capable. That is BIG problem with the SB Radios, but does not impact the Touch. This is due to the two devices having different internal Wifi chips. The problem is Wifi6 causes some type of interference which causes the Radio's wifi to drop the connection. If you can verify that the Verizon router does support Wifi6, I suggest the following: 1. Contact Verizon support to turn off WiFi 6; assuming that is possible. (I use an ASUS router and I turned off WiFi6 on the 2.4 Ghz band). Hopefully this will solve the problem. 2. If 1 above is not possible or does not to work. Then I suggest getting a device called a Wifi to ethernet bridge. When connected to the ethernet port, it will bypass the internal wifi in the Radio. Note, you have to manually switch to ethernet in the Radio, it is not automatic. I suggest a TP-link WR-802N nano router and select the Client mode. https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/wifi-router/tl-wr802n/ I am using one of these to solve a problem I have with a neighbor using WIfi6. Note 1: If WiFi6 is being used by your router, then the wlanpoke solution is likely not going to resolve the problem. While it seems to work when interference is caused by a neighbor's router, I doubt it will work when wifi6 is operating on your router. Installing wlanpoke also involves some technical skills and software to connect to the Radio and install and edit certain files. Note2: Many people use an ethernet bridge made by Vonets. While it works, the instructions are sparse and there is no technical support to call to help setting it up. I had trouble setting it up and replaced it with the TPlink. Good luck.
