Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio Accessory Pack
Nazgul;556417 Wrote: > Actually I wasn't directing the specifics at you, but at the cadre of > folks trying to quell discussion here... The crux of the matter is the phrase "quell discussion". My readings of the forums (the Radio forum in particular) isn't that the "senior members" are trying to "quell discussion", but rather to encourage posters to describe their problems in a reasonably calm fashion so that the community (all members) can respond if there is potentially helpful info out there. Nobody (pretty much) is denying that a significant number of people have had and are continuing to have problems with the Radio, and that by and large those problems seem to be related to immature S/W, both on the Radio and on MySB.com. I think that most people have been through enough new tech angst to feel a good deal of sympathy for those who are having issues. It is also clear that fixing the problems permanently lies completely in the hands of Logitech. It also appears clear that Logitech doesn't have sufficient S/W resources devoted to the Squeezebox line right now. Maybe there's a good reason for that, but for whatever reasons, the community is mostly in the dark about it. Sad but true. But, it is also evident that running a local SBS and using the Radio through that local SBS seems to solve most of the problems. That doesn't mean that anybody is wrong for not using a local SBS - Logitech absolutely markets the Radio as a standalone box that doesn't need a local server. However, the Radio indubitably works a lot better right now with a local SBS. I note simply as one data point that I have two Radios that work just fine, but I use them via a local SBS and mostly listen to my own library. So, when people complain about problems with the Radio in the MySB.com environment, it is proper for others to tell them "if you run a local SBS, you can eliminate a lot of the problems you're having." If someone having problem can't/won't run a local SBS, well, that's unfortunate, but it was still worthwhile to let them know that there is a workaround for at least some of the problems, and maybe somebody else will benefit from knowing that. The issue is when one uses these forums to simply vent one's spleen, with no real desire to seek any help at all. In that case, it is completely appropriate for others to point out that the ranter is just ranting, and that it is an abuse of the forums. That is NOT "quelling discussion", it is telling somebody who is acting childish to grow up and play a bit more nicely if they want to be welcome here. That's a completely appropriate course of action for a community to take. Be as vituperative with Logitech as you wish, but don't pollute these forums with nothing but bile - it's not fair to the rest of us. Temper your indignation with some perspective. On the other hand, what would life be like without people constantly erecting windmills to tilt at? :-/ -- kmr kmr's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10664 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77459 ___ Radio mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

It's about time these Forums had a better moderation policy. Self-moderation in its current form is blatantly no longer working. Maybe we should adopt the same approach as that now used for Bug Confirmation... Or perhaps we should just have a separate sub-forum for ranting, and a few more Mods. If you work in a paperless office then you can use it as a door > stop. :) Well, for stuff that may or may not be in writing when you buy the product, apple fails to support their existing customer base without selling them new hardware. Iphone has a camera, but can't take videos? Supports bluetooth, but no stereo music profile? (now fixed) ipad claims to have the "whole internet", but no flash, no java means you can't do a lot of things that I should be able to do on the "whole" internet. ipad supports memory cards with an optional adapter, but not for storing music? What is this "game" they are playing? These are all things the common sense consumer would assume it could and should do since their competitors do. So it might all be in writing somewhere about what it does and doesn't do, or supports or doesn't but dropping future support of old hardware IS something apple does... Which is what I was comparing Logitech. Both companies fail to support hardware for more than a few years. New versions of software do not support things that seemingly should on old hardware or you're forced to buy new hardware simply because the support is so bad, or the product no longer performs as it did when purchased. The fact that I can't play some of my itunes DRM'd songs on squeeze without burning a CD and ripping them back to MP3, or use all of the features on my not that old logitech keyboard is just flat out bad support from companies who have collected a good amount of my money over the years. Yet like Stockholm syndrome we continue to support their bad behavior and even excuse it. -- zimmer62 zimmer62's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38140 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77459 ___ Radio mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio Accessory Pack
Got my battery pack last Thursday; works well and have been using it outside with no wires! As I've mentioned, I live in Canada (where Logitech refuses to sell the battery pack) so I ordered through a colleague in the U.S. and paid to have it shipped up here; thanks for the hassle Logitech. Still don't understand why I can't purchase this in Canada and have to go through the U.S.. Logitech should stop selling the Radios in Canada too if they won't support the Canadian market with accessories. I also completed a survey they e-mailed me and I complained about all of this, including the availability date of March 2010 on their Canadian website (I even provided the URL). The March 2010 date is still there...thanks for listening Logitech. I'll delete your customer satifaction survey the next time and prevent myself from wasting valuable seconds completing it for nothing!!! Yeah, it was the UK site last Monday. I must've got lucky with my timing. Having said that, when I looked a few weeks ago it listed the accessory pack as in stock - I hadn't decided on buying it at that point. So far so good with the battery, lasts a good 7-8 hrs without a recharge. I'm too really happy with the radio, not encountered any of the big problems other have and I've been using it for streaming radio and my music library (on 7.5.1). I must be lucky with my Radio - I've never had any of these issues. Sorry to hear of your problems. What are you going to get instead? The big downside of Sonos for me is the lack of a display. Not an issue if you always have a controller to hand, but having multiple IR remotes kicking around and the ability to control from the device directly makes the Squeezebox platform much more flexible IMO. I still think the Boom is a much better product than Radio. I'm also one of the people that bought the radio, thinking that I'd be using it (with the battery pack) this spring/summer on my patio. Another weekend goes by and this thing sits tethered to my kitchen. (And no I'm not going to grab an extension cord. I am paranoid about the electrocution hazard, it's near a hot tub.) Over the last few years I've just started to become more and more unhappy with the squeezebox products and services. For years I kept telling my wife that the radio/squeezebox/whatever would work once all the bugs were worked through. Here we are, years later and the products still have issues. Issues I could live with, if I were enjoying the radio outside. Yes, I believe it's my fault for believing the hype, but I've already made the decision not to buy the squeezebox touch (which I was really looking forward to), and instead I'm looking at other companies for my A/V purchases. For info, I took the plunge and ordered the accessory pack on monday morning (from logitech UK site). Battery arrived wednesday and works perfectly so far. Been off work this week and dragging an extension cable around the garden was a pain. Hopefully the weather holds for the rest of the week and lets me get good use out of the battery! I do think that 45 quid for a battery and tiny remote is a ridiculous amount to charge, but there are obviously enough fools like me willing to pay it just now! It really should be part of the radio package in the first place, it isn't that cheap a bit of kit after all... Im not really interested in the battery pack at all, however I do feel like pointing out that if there EVER was a time when they should have known way ahead of time that they needed batteries in stock, its the spring and summer following the release of the Radio, when weather is nice and people will want to take these things outside. I'm just now getting my Radio's under control, but they still reboot while listening to Sirius, and I'm still waiting for the Touch to show up on a physical shelf near me. I live in Canada and I'm happy to say that I just received notification that my accessory pack is on its way to me now via a colleague in the US. It is foolish to make me take the extra step of ordering via someone in the US simply to have the accessory pack shipped to Canada because Logitech doesn't want to set up for Canadian credit cards/ship-to addresses. My company in Canada is set up for Canadian and US customers, no big deal (just like Canadians can order from Amazon.com even though there is an Amazon.ca). Not sure what the Logitech argument is against this other than they "don't have sufficient units to meet US demand let alone meet Canadian demand". The question to consider is: how many Canadians just like me are ordering via the US and bypassing Logitech's ridiculous policy??! So much for inventory segregation. Logitech has NEVER been any good as post sale support issues. I get mad and yet I still continue to buy their products... partially because no one else makes the same products we have a demand for. Logitech products that I've been burned by: iFeel mouse (no longer supported) Wireless keyboard no longer supported by their software (aka no windows 7 support, and no plans to do it) Countless webcams where drivers are no longer available. handheld scanners which stopped working with software updates and new versions (obviously I don't expect them to still be supported, but I'd like maybe a few years of lifespan out of an expensive product like that) The harmony 880 remote suffered a charging base issue rending my remote useless for the most part. The harmony software setup doesn't allow all options. You call them to get your visio TV to switch inputs correctly and they fix it on their end and you are all set. If you need to do that for another TV (since my sister has the same TV) I can't do it myself, I have to call them again and complain (problem is that if the remote is older than 1 year, they charge you for this service) I can go on, but it just gets me worked up. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio Accessory Pack
Here's an update on the battery situation for Squeezebox Radios It's been a bit of work to get them available. But as of today, almost all batteries on backorder are being shipped this week from our warehouses in the US and Europe. I apologize for the delay, especially to those who ordered them early this year. Unfortunately, we are short 15-20 units at both locations; we are now down to zero batteries at both locations again. The quantity of battery orders have far exceeded our expectations, and we're still in catch-up mode. Additional batteries will begin arriving in multiple shipments to our European warehouse starting at the end of this month, and starting at the US warehouse in July. The plan is to stock the warehouses with plenty of batteries by the end of the summer. As you might guess, we'll have to monitor the situation closely to ensure that "plenty" is enough. The battery is currently only available in the United States, EU countries, and Switzerland. I can't promise making it available in Canada, but I'll do what I can to help our disappointed customers there. Even in America the "hold" or "pre-auth" or "earmarking" as we call it
over here has a fixed duration for both debit and credit cards. In no
case can a "hold" extend beyond 30 days and for a debit card is usually
for 24 hours e.g. when preauthing a card at a gas station (sic).
However, if you pre-order online a non-stock item or order an
out-of-stock item item there is no "earmarking" or pre-auth. The card
issuer cannot be asked for an indefinite hold. The authorisation will
take place immediately prior to despatch. Global Distance Selling
Legislation enforces this.

Of all I said you decide to focus on one sentence, which you
misrepresented btw. Since you were intent on taking what I said out of
context & ultra literal let me help you out. I said I was starting to
feel scammed. I then went on to explain that after ordering a product
with a set date of release that now no one at the company can
apparently even estimate when it will be in stock. A stated product on
a stated date becomes no ideal and out of date website info seems
suspicious (almost like a scam).
Now you stated "Was your credit card charged and you never received

BUT the entire point of my post was the AWFUL customer service. A
"tech" company can't keep the website up to date they can't tell
you even estimated dates they can't inform their customers (who
have made numerous Logitech purchases) about what is going on ... NOT
professional.
How about this: instead of being the Logitech schill just stick to

And a "tech company" can't update their website why?? Creative editing with my quote, you left out my point, which is "ability to utilize a portable battery pack that was advertised to be available in March 2010". The advertised and not updated availability date is my entire concern here. Whether you agree or not, advertising a product feature/accessory, with a date and then not updating this date and leaving it on your website (online advertising) is contrary to the The Canadian Code of Advertising Standards; please see Provision 1. Anyhoo, I've stated my opinion and the fact that I would simply like a more accurate estimate of availability. I've contacted Logitech customer service regarding availability and the out-of-date website and am awaiting a response. In the meantime, I will pre-order via a colleague in the U.S.; no point waiting on Canada to even have "pre-order" as an option. Does it not have the compartment and/or connections to utilize a battery pack? It does I bet and that meets the requirements. They never said it had a battery pack, they said it could use one. Very different items and I do not think they were said to confuse the user. Personally I never buy a product based on what its potential may be but what it currently is. If I felt he Radio would not be a good device without the battery then I would have waited. You choose not to wait and now feel that a company cheated you for giving you a product you wanted. Cause you did want it otherwise you would not have bought it. I am not defending Logitech, I am defending all tech companies that try to improve their products over the lifespan of the device without requiring the user to re-buy it. If people like you make such a fuss over a company trying to do that why would they continue that practice? Deadlines slip, demand is underestimated, basically #...@$@! happens. So your complaint is that you got a Radio which works for you except for the battery pack? And the battery pack is critical for you? Then call Logitech support and tell them to let you send it back, get an RMA, etc. Sure, your 30 day time is up, but they are reasonable, and you can't evaluate the complete package because you don't have the battery pack. Either because who ever is in charge of the website doesn't know, or some low level web developer forgot to fix it. Advertising something on a website does not mean that some company ripped you off. If they charged your credit card and told you it was shipped, and it never gets into the tracking system, or never shows up, then you have a problem. For now, you don't have any problem except that your wishes were not met. By the way, this is a community co-operative-help forum. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio Accessory Pack
Please re-read my posts. What I'm saying, and what I've written, is that my credit card was charged for a Squeezebox Radio, which I received, but which was advertised to have the ability to utilize a portable battery pack that was advertised to be available in March 2010. I have not yet paid for the battery pack (and never said I did) because it is still not available for order in Canada. Please read my posts carefully. What I'm saying is I paid for the SBR and, when I paid for it, Logitech was advertising on their Canadian website that the radio featured a battery pack for portability that would be available in March 2010. I'm also saying that this battery pack never was available in March 2010 and that the Canadian website still says it is available in March 2010. There is nothing "heated" about anything I'm saying. I guess it is too much to ask for the Logitech Canadian website to be updated with the actual or projected (into the future, not the past) availability date for a product that was an advertised feature of a product being sold. In any case, I've said the same thing several times. I won't bother posting the same thing again. Sorry if some readers are upset because they are misinterpreting what I'm saying. I thought I was being quite clear. BTW, last week I tried to pre-order an accessory pack from Logitech.com U.S. customer service but they informed me they do not accept credit cards with Canadian billing addresses. Again, as iPhone asked, was your credit card charged? Or did you pay with cash? It is against the rules for a merchant to charge a Visa or MasterCard card until the product has been shipped. If they charged you, then you have a complaint. If your credit card account has not been charged, then they do not have your money. It is acceptable for a merchant to put a "AUTH" on your account for the amount before it is shipped, but this just reduces your available credit limit, it does not mean that you have to pay. I hesitate to get into this, because you, Jakearama, seem to be making some heated claims, and I do not claim that what Logitech did was wonderful, or even wise. But I do know the ins and outs of Internet credit card processing. And unless something happened that you have not stated, no one "took your money". In fact, Logitech did "take my money", in December 2009, for the Squeezebox Radio that I purchased with the understanding that, as their Canadian website indicated, the battery pack providing "true" portability would be available in March 2010. As the battery pack is not available, the website availability date has not been updated and I have received no communication from Logitech whether this promised accessory will be made available or when, how have I not been "ripped off". When I purchased the Squeezebox Radio, one of advertised product attributes for which I was paying was the expectation of "true" portability via the battery pack which was advertised to be available in March 2010; it was not. Why has the Canadian website not been updated? Why haven't registered Canadian users been notified regarding availability? To suggest I got just what I paid for is absurd. Stating the facts, as they are in Canada, is certainly not libel (note the spelling). I feel "ripped off" and have indicated so and provided the facts as they stand today. I work in the tech manufacturing segment and, based on my professional experience, what Logitech is doing in Canada is bogus (not genuine) e.g. the battery availability date of March 2010 still appearing on the Canadian website. "iPhone", it appears that you are a staunch supporter of Logitech. I have supported them as well with my 6 Squeezebox and variants purchases, so let's keep the drama out of this. Logitech, please do something to inform/update your Canadian customers who have purchased this product and future Canadian customers who may be considering purchasing (or reading this forum!). Maybe just a guess because you made a rather outlandish comment, that is far from the truth. And no posting that something is in stock when it is not is not a scam if they do not take your money. I am sure Logitech will not take your money until they actually ship the product. -- m1abrams m1abrams's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=850 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77459 ___ Radio mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

About Canada - there has never been even one announcement on the Canadian website that the batteries are out of stock - not one. It still says the battery pack will be available in March 2010. That *is* a kind of scam - false claims and zero concern for informing the customer about what is supposedly going on. Why are you so invested in defending the indefensible practices of Logitech Canada??? -- albright albright's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35256 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77459 ___ Radio mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
