Doug, I have an older Nitto Campee rear rack http://www.flickr.com/photos/16951...@n08/2841844222/in/set-72157616858409913/ I believe the triangular braces were added recently. There was some material in the RR a while ago about trusses (bridges) and triangles being a good structural shape.

Angus: Yours looks same as mine except mine has the braces at the top. I really can't see a Nitto flexing much in the plane the braces are bracing. Some of the racks on the Riv site have a more elegant curve at the bottom, where they fasten to the drop out. Much nicer than the squared off

If true, that would mean a very low inflation rate on this item! BTW, the serial number will tell when teh frame was made, as opposed to circa Waterford's system gives the month as a letter, the last 2 digits of the year and the nth frame made in that month at the factory.
