Pete,
Not directly answering your question, but a couple of mechanic's
troubleshooting tips. Are you you 100% positive that it is the caliper
itself? Sometimes the ends of the canti bosses get a little bit of flare,
and a high quality (one with tight tolerances, little play) caliper will
Steel cup'd Tange bottom brackets are available here, if you decide to go

Robert *is* on vacation, and Jenny, our new shipper, is doing a great

I've had King and White. Both provide excellent performance and
durability. I've used them extensively for single speed mountain
biking and they have endured hard usage without trouble. The
ratcheting of the King freehub is very loud, and I could see it being
annoying for some. The White is

If the Hope is even louder, then like whoa.
In my shopping for fancy rear hubs I had made my mind up on the White,
especially for how nicely it complements a SON delux up front.

I have a set of CKs from a few years ago and they are still really
loud, the sound is also high-pitched, so buzzing bees is a good
description.
I have a WI Dos FW on my quickbeam, also quite loud, but a different
tone, not sure if the WI hubs are the same or not, just another data-

FWIW, you couldn't give me a Chris King. The hubs are all over Portland.
Too loud, too NASCAR. The WI, which came to me through purchase of a used
bike, I find pleasant in both looks and sound. It is also incredibly
smooth. It spins down a stop like no other wheel I've owned.

I built up a 650B wheelset using a SON delux front hub and a used Deore XT
hub that I got from ebay. Turns out that the 90's era XT rear hub had a
non-original freehub body on it. When I put a cassette on it, the largest
cog hit the spokes. I did a bit of comparison with my other wheels with
Many thousands of trouble-free miles on White hubs (MI5, H2, H3, etc). Not

Are these for the Gunnar or the Riv? There are other choices if you are
