Don't discount the White crank too easily. They are much better looking
than the pictures on their web site. The finish is a highly polished
black, not the matt black we associate with mt bike carbon cranks. I

Great pic.
If you lay a straight edge over the top of the chain you could measure the
static sag and provide a very good rule-of-thumb for setting up single
speeds. To be verified by the Park beer bottle opener test, of course!
From the photo it looks like about 1/4 - 3/8 inch?

There's a fine line between slack and super-taut that I consider optimal. I
mostly ride my single-speeds fixed-gear, and I find a loose chain unnerving
when I'm transitioning from forward pedaling to back-pressuring and back to
forward pedaling again. With a freewheel, I'd probably run a bit
There are tons of very cool 31.8 bars available now, which to me makes a
threaded steerer a huge drawback in the versatility department. Riv has to be
the número uno customer for Nitto quill stems. Maybe Riv could use this clout

You managed to get a 32 on a Sugino Alpina? I thought the Alpina was 110mm
BCD, and as such only goes down to a 34 with Sugino rings and maybe to a 33
if you buy a TA ring. My recollection of the VO Suginos was that they were
all 48/34.

I listed a few $1 auctions on ebay. Included there is a NEW Sachs-Aris
8-speed freewheel body. If you are running 135mm Phil FW hub, this might

Exactly why I needed to ask the question. I wasn't planning on

Thank you all for the information thus far. I'm leaning towards an 8-

I'm curious as well because 13-34 8speed is my preferred cassette, but
I have to make it myself. To the best of my knowledge, the only

I didn't see 94mm spiders on the DaVinci site. But you can go down to a
