Probably down to differences in rim width and how close to the rim people run their brake pads. On a sidepull caliper, how far the pads are apart when the QR is opened is limited by how far they are apart when it is closed. If you have narrow rims and like to run your pads close to the rim

I have both the small and large tan rondeneur style bags and like them both. I appreciate the light interior and the quality of the materials. The small bag came with very nice brass turnbuckles on the small pockets, which I really like but the large one came with snaps that I struggle with.
