Barlow Pass and Sam Hillborne are a perfect combo. They ride amazing, and I
don’t even use the extra light casing version.
I’ll bet Soma Supple Vitesse 700x42 would be even better though. They can fit,
so why not?

I had the exact same problem with my drop outs. Couldn't quit get it to sit
flush. I sanded down the paint to get it in.

Absolutely, with room to spare. Obvious caveat is the load is higher and
physics and fulcrums and leverage and all that, but that doesn't really
mean anything until you are on trails rather than roads, where a load with
any sway adds adventure to your day! Grin.

68 and had had knee replacement surgery a couple years before. He was a strong
rider and felt like he shoulda had the surgery years

That is a nice bike at a really nice price. Way too big for me though.
Interesting that you feel it's too big but the handlebars are set up way
high and far away. To me I think the SH has a long TT length to begin with
(not Clem long but still pretty long) and that bar setup would make the
