That one belongs to a friend of mine. My Sam is around there occasionally, too.
Sage blue. Let's ride some time.

Just double checked and the Columbia Trail in NJ runs from High Bridge in
Hunterdon for 15miles into to Morris County and could pick it up from the
Raritan Valley train line it seems. I only rode it once several years ago but
found the scenery really enjoyable and expect it’d be even more
D canal path is local for me in central NJ and you could really make the
route as long or short as you like. It parallels route 1 and the Northeast
Corridor of NJ Transit.
I haven’t yet tried this myself but have wanted to take the train up the the
Brunswick area then ride the trail back home

Yesterday I did the annual Old Croton Aqueduct Rough Stuff ride. It was my
first, and I highly recommend doing this with someone who knows the (very
confusing)
clearance aside, she might not know what she's missing with the tiny ring.
i have a wide low double sugino crank from rivendell with the tiny inner
ring, and bashguard instead of a big/outer ring. having that small gear is
really nice. but i do ride up a lot of hills living in san francisco.. .

If you don’t mind road riding there is plenty of low trafficked roads north of,
say, Katonah and beyond on the Metro North train.
For a longer trip, take the train to Poughkeepsie and ride into New Paltz. A

I don't see a problem, I ran one with a 42t ring in the middle position of a
triple which is where her 39 would be on a double. But test carefully, the
spindle length is going to tell the story. I would get the BB on there right,
then very slowly slide the driveside crank on and see if it's
When I lived in NJ, I used to ride from Easton down to Trenton on the
Delaware Canal.

The fall colors were typically outstanding. I've never tried to find a
rail route to Easton, but there is bus service there from NYC, and
Thanks everyone
Glad to hear I can "slum it" with these old wheels.

We used to run 20mm external width rims and 2.4" tires all the time back
when singlespeeding was hip. Built dozens of bikes with that combo, zero
issues.

the sage color, but i’m Interested in any color really. I’d love to buy

Just checking to see if anyone has a Fall ride (mostly low cars or light
off road if possible) that's easy to reach by train from NYC.

Hi Colin,
I'm not a Riv rider but I have definitely adopted the Riv mentality. I live
in Tulsa and do lots of commuting and monthly s24os. I work at Tom's
Bicycles off of Route 66. Give me a call at the shop anytime at

Hi everybody! I'm looking to transfer my gf's Shimano 105 53-39 cranks onto
a Rivendell Cheviot. I like the 53-39 here because she spends most of her
time in the 39 but has the big gear when she needs it.
Will Cheviot chainstays clear this? I can't seem to find any information
about this
I thought I'd take a moment to throw up some photos and a description of a
trip I did earlier this Spring. Myself and several friends flew to Cuba
with our bikes and spent about a week "light touring". This post has a bit
about the logistics of traveling in Cuba, but I'll try and focus on the
Long shot but anyone with a 59 MUSA Homer Hilsen interested in talking about a
trade deal for a 60 blue Rambouillet? Love the frame but wanting more tire

For big rings with fewer than 46 teeth I'd recommend either the Gevenalle
BURD or the IRD Sub C front derailleurs
i.e.

Hi Kiley!
Yes, I think Clem is an excellent Riv for a project like this, but really any
model with v-brakes and moderately stout tubes will do. It's a significant
weight and power gain, so I would lean towards bikes designed at the outset for
full loads.

Hey, Joe: This is so cool! It is still on my "to do" list and I will get it
done in the next couple of years. Thank you for all the investigative work;
I doubt I would attempt it without your pioneering. The Clem is still the
best Riv bike to 'electrify', yes? -Kiley

I use a OX601 with 46/28 rings and Sram 10sp shifters. I use a Sram Red FD
with the built-in chain keeper. 11-32 in the back. Works great!

Last week I climbed Mt. Kosumo, one of Japanese Alps Mountains.
The starting point of trail up Mt. Kosumo is about 12 kilometers (8 miles)
away from where I live, so I decided to go by bike (Hunqapillar).
Though it was only 8 miles, I had to climb 750m (2460 ft), and it took 2
hours.
