I'm with others on the thread, contact Riv. Call and then send these pics
over to them and see what they say. They probably have a replacement fork
they can send you but it might not match the mustard.

Joe — I went to PBE for the first time last year. Not sure I'll make it
this year. There are lots of vendors displaying all kinds of cycling
related stuff: bike makers of all kinds, bag and luggage makers, tool
makers and anything else you can think of. There are food, beer and coffee
vendors a
I had a tandem fork repaired where the crown had cracked. The builder (not
the original builder of the tandem) heated the crown enough so that he
could remove the steerer and fork blades, cleaned them up, and fitted a new
fork crown.

@Matthew Williams,
Sorry to hear about your fork! Do you frequently ride in rain? How old
would you say your frame and fork are?
I ask as someone who commutes on steel bikes and as a result, has ended up
with rust of various amounts on my commuter bikes.

That’s a lovely ride, small gravel for 5 miles over Forbidden Drive (forbidden
to cars) then MUP to Kelly Drive.
I suggest from Kelly Drive, right turn at Falls Bridge over the Schuylkill,
left at MLK drive then car-free road for next four miles to the Art Museum.
Then have your GPS to the Co
Hello Roberta,
I'm planning to be there on Saturday. Same as last year, I'll park at the
northern end of the Wissahickon trail and ride to the convention center.
Anyone want to join me, just let me know.
Look forward to see everyone there.

OP asked a list of questions:
1: Is this a structural failure, or just old/deteriorating paint? It's
one or the other. Inspect more closely and decide. Have somebody else do
the inspection if you don't trust yourself to do it
2: Is the fork fixable/salvageable? If it is a paint problem yes
I think it's plausible that there's just a bunch of rust scale developing
under the paint. Take a drill and wire brush attachment, remove the paint,
and see what you have underneath. You'd want to do that to arrest the rust
anyway. All those little "bubbled" areas want to be stripped bare too
Beautiful bike.

That would be wonderful.
Depending on how far you want to ride in the morning, you can get a hotel
on the Schuylkill River Trail and ride that in. It's really wonderful.
The only on-road is 3/4 mile in Manyunk until you get to Kelly Drive and
make a right. From there, best way is to make
I am hoping to make it this year. I will be driving from Pittsburgh and if
I bring my bike along, I'll look for a place a little west, and ride into
and back from the convention center. Would love to meet with some of the
folks on this forum too!

The obvious thing to do first is contact Riv as this is by no means in the
bounds or anything "normal". If they don't offer a replacement, or
recommend a builder inspect it for possible repair, I'd look for a builder
that is close to you. If you're near Ohio I'd recommend Jack Trumbull of

Max, How did you go about conveying to Jack the color you chose ? Jack
told me the Dupont Nason paint he applies uses the same color chart as the
former Imron, but those charts don't translate well into digital images
online. The actual colors in person are very different than the digital

It looks great. Is that a standard PPG or DuPont color?

I trying to get there, bothersome work schedule has me working on both
Friday and Monday around the weekend. I'm aiming for a turnpike motel then
close in for a Saturday night location near the SEPTA for both parking and
an orderly exit for home Sunday.
I now think of this gathering as a "meet
