Bill, I am a bit of a perfectionist builder myself. I like to step back and
make sure everything on the bike fits into a certain theme/model while
remaining utilitarian. My thoughts on ordering the frame are exactly yours.
An easy bike, hop on and ride, don't think about it. Get some tacos and
Trying to sell this as a complete build now. I am narrowing the herd and
hoping to get some funds for a clem before the sale ends!!!

Hello all,
I am looking for a Carradice Bagman Sport Quick Release, for a non-Brooks
saddle.
Just traded for a Carradice Barley and hope to find a proper support
platform for it. I am in SF Bay Area, willing to pay shipping if someone is
further away.
Thanks!

I have a nice Gunnar Crosshairs with a 55.5cm effective top tube. This is

Hi Peter,
Thank you for the update!
From what I have seen most on this forum are honest and good people, I was
wondering if anything could be wrong because of the shipping issue. I hope
you have a safe and quick recovery, no issues on my side with the parts
coming a bit late.

Hey all,
Looking for a set of Paul Racer Mediums, any finish, 47-57mm reach.
Non-recessed mount would be optimal, but I understand I can change the bolt
if needed. Thank you all!

Hello again!
The Waterford is still available. Price drop again to $1000 for bay area
pick-up, or $1100 shipped CONUS.
The Bridgestone has been claimed but the Rawland is still available. How

Please feel free to offer any interesting
Hello all, thank you for the emails and interest!
The Bridgestone and Rawland are tentatively spoken for, the Waterford is
not.
No one wants a lean and mean roadie in the stable? Reducing price to $1100
for bay area pick-up, or $1200 shipped CONUS. Thanks!

Hi all!
I am clearing a few bikes to make a bit of room, and hopefully soon have
enough funds for a Sam Hillborne (let me know if you have a 56cm!). All
bikes are steel, for someone around 5'8. 66.7% are lugged, 100% are fine
bikes. Please contact off-list, will happily ship at expense of
Noticed today while installing my Nitto Sobas that there is a very
pronounced and unsettling dent in the aluminum. This is either due to my or
the previous owner's overzealous tightening of a Nitto technomic stem.
Do you think that this would still be safe to ride? I'd hate to lose such a
Thank you all for the replies, they are much appreciated.
I will not be riding the bars. This would give me a chance to try out some new
31.8 drops on my go-fast bike.
Tangent - would anyone happen to have some 44cm Salsa Cowbells or a similar bar
they would be willing to sell?

Hey Frank!
Tons of good food in the bay, you won't be disappointed. I recommend you
get something that isn't as readily available in Portland. Perhaps try some
tacos in the Mission or dim sum in China Town (Oakland or San Francisco).
I'm an East Bay boy and love Fruitvale for good

Hey all,
Letting go of a Rivendell Atlantis, 56cm in original blue/green/whatever
you would like to call it. Beautiful. Designed for 26 tires, and currently
rolling a really nice wheelset. This is an older Atlantis with a bit of
beausage, but mostly in great condition. Japanese, if I'm
Michael,
Great to hear, I find the Albatrosses to be decidedly less intimidating and
the more relaxed and fun posture must be noticed.
Separate note- I will be moving to Baltimore next month, feel free to

So: how does the Albatross do:
1. in heavy headwinds? Where do you hold on when bucking a steady 25 mph
wind?
I LOVE my albatross bars on my long haul trucker. They are my favorite city
bars and they bring you up nice and high. But with a strong wind the
upright stance can really be annoying.
I did a conversion on a Trek 620 a while back, the brakes couldn't make the
adjustment. The REAL problem is that the brake posts are much more narrow
on the 27 bikes and modern brakes are designed for the wider brakes
designed after the mountain bike transition. Look more a pair of old smooth
That whole build is just plain beautiful to me! Interesting to see that
it's actually up for sale, I wish I had the funds.
Any reason to go center-pulls? More clearance/power/modulation?

I remember a post some time ago on the forum where it was commented that
none of the staff bikes had dyno-powered lighting systems. I was just
checking up on the Rivendell site and it looks like they have two models in
stock!

I find the line-up at Rivendell is diverse enough that a custom would have
to really be something that they aren't providing. The first thing that
comes to mind is a bike ready for internal-geared-hub, maybe a Rohloff! The
Appaloosa seems to be filling in that area, but I'd go for a quicker

Not the seller, nor am I related to them in any way! Saw it on Craigslist
out of San Francisco. They are asking $950 shipped. I'd buy it if I had the
money...

I've used the Marathons in 650b and the Soma Xpress in 700c.
The marathons are heavy duty tires to say the least. They have great
puncture resistance and I sold the bike before they ran out of tread.
The Soma's are more plush, a ton lighter. They actually don't use kevlar,
but rather
They've been hinting towards this bike for a while, I really can't wait to
see some preliminary shots of it! As a college student, this sounds like
what I've been waiting for. A true lugged beauty (to the rider), that I can
lock on campus without nervously twitching every few moments. Plus,
