My experience is different. For me both Clem L and Cheviot are similar
regarding effort to speed ratio. I have not found the Cheviot any speedier
than the Clem. The Clem does better in rough stuff and is an equal on the
road. Cheviot is easier to mount and dismount with load. Both are NOT bikes

family for a few more days.
Don't know the seller, but have a few friends struggling right now or soon
and I would be the last to judge them for a move like this.

I feel like slippage has little to do with bar weight or stem length.
If you want less slip then you need to increase friction between stem and bar.
A larger diameter bar/stem interface (31.8mm or 35mm) accomplishes this most
elegantly. Friction paste and torque are other means. More exotic solut
@Justin underneath the bar sleeve there are likely two slits/holes. Squirt some
wd40 or t9 in there and the creaking should stop.

The technomic with its steel backing plat will handle a good amount of over
torquing. Same with the sleeved boscos. Grease stem bolt and underneath bolt

When I ride the bike, boscos and Albas and bullhorns and anything else with
that kind of lever will slip in a 25.4 or 26 stem if tightened per torque
recommended and interfaced properly. Overtorquing and friction paste are ways
to minimize this and even that is no guarantee.

I think this may also have something to do with the levers I used (Tektro
linear drop levers), but the "grabbyness" made them almost scary offroad
when I needed to slow down a little but not stop. You hit a bump which
caused hands squeezing the lever just a tad more and the wheels would

There should be some minimum insertion / max height marks on the stem.
Usually some vertical lines. Insert stem until you can't see them to get to
max height.

All personal preference I guess. I had a big wald basket on my Cheviot and
routinely had a full camping or grocery load in there. It rode very well with
that kind of front load be it dirt or trails.

I personally like wider tires on 700c best. 44+ on 700c is preferred. For me
the whole perfect handling based on rim size to tire width does not register. I
like the feel of a large wheel and tire. I am also not sold on low trail geo

This to me is the main advantage of 31.8 diameter clamps. More surface, more
friction, less chance of rotating. Almost all bigger sweep bars in 26mm and
25.4mm have rotated for me, but in 31.8mm they stay put.
Adding some carbon friction paste helps though.
