I have an Atlantis. Here's my two cents': I love it when people love my bike. As others have said, many people think it's an old bike, but they think it's a beautiful old bike. Those who recognize that you're riding by on a Rivendell often have very gratifying, loving looks of appreciation on their faces as you wheel past. You might as well be soaring past them on a gryphon.
That said, more people comment on my brass whale than on the bike itself: http://www.flickr.com/photos/intibucano/4276941974/in/set-72157623215479686/. About being worried. I would say I *am* more cautious, so far, when riding my Riv (which I've owned for one year). I *really* don't want to lay it down, and the extra-high center of gravity I've got on my 68- cm frame does pose a somewhat higher risk of this than if I were riding one of my smaller bicycles. The upshot is that I go more slowly downhill than I used to. I'm also cautious about where I leave the bike, but I find I'm able to find a good balance between prudence and prudishness. I carry a heavy u-lock whenever I plan to stop somewhere, and I use locking skewers, and I am generally just a bit more vigilant. But as others have said, most people won't necessarily know they're looking at a lot of money. And anyway, the way bike theft goes, it's better for professional thieves to steal a poorly locked cheap bike than a well-locked expensive one. So lock yours well (and only leave it out during daylight hours), and then try to relax.
