Ok technically I pedaled NEAR it, this was the farewell Pedal The Puddle ride at Clear Lake CA. and they didn't do the loop around the lake this year, just the 20 and 40 milers. I did the 20 which was billed as a "family fun ride" but the first 8-or-so miles were pretty serious and steep to me!

I can't comment on the Shimano comparison but I've used Silver1 and 2 as bar-ends and liked that long blade better. The way you can drop your whole hand and pull up on the ratcheting direction with your two rear fingers (pinkie and the other one) can't be beat for friction shifting. On

The hiccup with converting a Romulus to 650B is you aren't starting with short-reach calipers that can be swapped for Tektro R559, the brakes you have now (probably labeled Shimano, no model name) are mid-reach. It can be done with some centerpulls which you'll need cable hangers for. On
