In addition to the Gunnar mentioned, a Waterford 22-series lugged bike is
about the same price as a Roadeo, depending on the options. You won't get
the Rivendell niceties but you will get what you are looking for.

You might be able to build what you want with Miche cassette cogs. IRD
also has an 12-32 11-speed cassette but not with the cogs you want.

I really like your Roadeo and the build. There was a Roadeo with flat bars
on the Rivendell Blug a while back. The bars might have been MAP's instead
of Albatross'.
A high performance road bike with flat bars? Horrors, what would some of
the other forums dedicated to road bikes think?
My question is out of curiosity. Just wondering if members' experiences
are the same as what I've read elsewhere. As with the vast majority of
Rivendell owners, I have only good to say about Rivendell. I'm currently
not looking for another bike, and if I was it would be a Waterford-built
I've read on several other forums that Waterford paint jobs leave something
to be desired. Complaints vary, with the most common being that the paint
does not hold up well, and chips and scratches very easily. Although
beausage is the sign of a bike that is ridden, I wonder if the members

By STI, I'm guessing you mean integrated shifters and brake levers? If so,
my dated experience with 9-speed STI and a 46t chain ring was that front
derailleur shifting was poor and the drive train was plagued with constant
noise. After several mechanics could not fix the problem, switching to
The Jitensha bars are nice. The bars have no rise, and if you are going to
mount the shifters and levers near the grips, it's a little cramped. You
might have to use grip-shift length grips or shorten the common 130mm
length grips. The lighter version Jitensha bars are even shorter. If

The Spring 2015 Bicycle Quarterly indicates there will be a Compass 35 -
622 tire, the Bon Jon Pass. The tire's not yet shown on the Compass web
site, and there is no availability date in the magazine.
Other new tire offerings per the magazine are: 55-559, Rat Trap
Pass (Extralight only);
I swapped from a 100mm/+17 degrees to a 110mm/+17 degrees stem when I went
from Mark's drop bars to the Map/Ahearne bars, and did not change the
spacer height (20mm). I like the bars a lot, and with my increasing lack
of flexibility am much more comfortable with the upright position.
If it's an option that works for you, Paul sells direct, and ships to
Canada.

In mid-2002 when I ordered my Rivendell custom, the standard fork crown is

that I had received the custom cut fork crown at no extra charge. I

Where does Freddie Hoffman fit in with the record number of miles on a
bike?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freddie_Hoffman
Freddie was featured in one or two Rivendell Readers, and I think one of
Freddie's first bikes was a department store model or Schwinn Voyager with
Wald handlebars.
Although I've not seen the combination you are describing, some Jagwire
dealers will have a sample ring of most of the Jagwire cable colors,
including the Pro Gold Medal braided cable.
Good luck.

Welcome.
I saw my first Hungapillar (single top tube} last week in Austin, Texas.
The bike was owned by a local bike shop employee and was built up in
classic Rivendell fashion, down tube friction shifters, etc. All

I switched from Tektro long reach dual pivots to Paul's bolt-on center
pulls. The Tektro stock pads were replaced with Kool-Stop salmon pads. I
think the center pulls were more powerful and modulated better. Maybe the
wider 650b x 32 tires have something to do with the difference?
Thanks for all the suggestions.

Avery,
Your Hilsen looks great with either bar, just different. To help you with
your racer past, maybe you should find a Roadeo for your drop bars, and
leave the Albatross on your Hilsen. Don't worry, you won't have to sign up
for Frame Swappers Anonymous.
