Yeah Jan's backdoor is something I've wanted to do as well. However the Seattle
to Puyallup bits leave a lot to be desired. Some nice views of Mt. Rainier. May
isn't an amazing time, though this year there isn't likely to be any snow. Of
course the coast could be plenty wet as well. Could go
The ferry from Tokeland to Wesport hasn't run in years, so he couldn't really
get further down the coast from there. That being said 109 from Hoquim to
Tokeland is not at all what I'd call much nicer than the 105. The 109 is
quite hilly, has no shoulder and just as much if not more traffic.

through suburbia (which, if you stick to the Interurban trail, will be flat),

Whoops, double checking that map, it looks like it got a bit messed up. THIS is
my preferred route from Seattle to the Coast:

In between the rainy weather we had some nice weather this past weekend. I took
advantage of this break for an overnighter at a remarkably close by campground

Hey an Ashland question for all of you who have done tours in this area and
stopped there. Is there a good place to stay for the touring cyclist? Was
reservations needed? If one showed up on a Monday or Tuesday (which it's
looking like I will) is it easier? How about tickets to the plays? I
Hey gang,
Thanks all for the well wishes and the kind words. The first week of the tour
has been top drawer - I do love Washington State, why I live here after all.
Anyway am about to hit the mountains and will be more off the grid for those
watching the blog and photos but will update as I'm

Hey thanks all for the kind words and checking out these posts/pics. Sorry for
the lack of individual responses but I'm actually back on tour, posting this
from the road. I'm trying something different for this tour, using Track My
Tour. So if interested in following along check out this post
I took my Atlantis out for a Micro-Tour during a run of super nice days here
in Washington a couple of weeks back. I've been pretty slack on my writeup and
posting my photos, but I've finally got it all post. So for those interested
here is the index to the trip report:
As alluded to in my recent post w/r/t my Quickbeam I took an overnight bicycle
camping trip during several very nice days here in the PNW. My writeup of said
trip can be found here:

Hey gang,
Thanks all for the comments and kind words. I was out on an S24O (more on that
latter!) so just getting back to the list. Anyway to answer some questions
that came up:
Great job, Robert! The Quickbeam is an oddly addictive bicycle. What
gear(s) are you running?

Thanks
Hey so I ended up getting this frame. Thought ya'll might want to see what I
ended up doing with it:

I'm looking at getting a frame powder coated and I want to get the orange used
on the Quickbeam. I asked at Riv and they said they didn't have a specific code
for the color. So has anyone had a bicycle powder coated in that color and
what did you specify for it? According to Cyclofiend's Touch
Figure I should send out an update. The Candybar bag and Saddle have sold but
the Adam and Arkel bags are still available. I'm updating my original notes on
these items with some info I forgot:
1) Rivendell Baggins Adam saddlebag - $125 shipped CONUS

The zipper on my Hobo bag broke on tour last summer and I'm hoping to
get it replaced. Anyone have any leads on someone or someplace that'll
do that sort of job? Ideally in the Seattle area but I'd send it out
to somebody if I had to.
thanks,

The weather is getting into post-tights temps and to my dismay I found
my Riv Wool Leg-warmers were pretty much devastated by the moths. I
really like these leg-warmers but I desperately need a new pair and
Riv doesn't have them in stock. So who makes something equivalent (or

I don't really think its a myth at all, though I guess really you
aren't talking about the bicycle. Using myself as an example I own
two bicycles, my Atlantis which I ride exclusively and then my old
Novara Safari (another all-rounder type) which I ride only if my

So the zipper on my Hobo Bag broke whilst on tour last month. This
seems like something one could replace (preferably with a metal one)
but I'm not really sure how to go about it. I don't think I can do it
myself, I assume one needs a sewing machine. So any suggestions?

Hey all,
So once again I'm setting off on tour my my trusty Atlantis. Running
about the same setup some of you might remember from my 2007 tour, but
with of course some modifications based on lessons learned and a bit
extra stuff as its a bit longer tour. Anyway I'll be blogging when I
Much appreciation to all who replied, that helps a lot. It sounds like
the best route to go is to try to be convenient to the BART and just
rely on that to get to the various places I want to go. I'll hunt for
hotels accordingly. I'll also check out Priceline.com - I always

A question for the SF area RBWO-ers: Say you are coming into town via
the Amtrak (the Emeryville station seems to be the closest to the city
I believe) with one's bicycle and you wanted to see things such as Riv
World Headquarters, SFMOMA and other art galleries. So any
suggestions on
