Neoprene can work well, but the danger is you get wet from perspiration,
since it doesn't breathe. Wet isn't a problem per se, but if you get cold
from being wet, that is another story. Of course you'll be cold and wet
without proper gear too...

There are a lot of different types of Gravel events. I started organizing
some in 2007; none of them are races, but all it takes to have a race is to
have 2 people trying to outdo each other. In the larger events, it is
typically easy to find someone to ride with, regardless of one's pace. In
The Color Factory in Waretown, NJ does inexpensive paint jobs. I'd call
them C+ grade (If Joe Bell is A+); not great on detail work (like filling
in lug panels), but you can get something stripped. blasted, painted 1
color, decaled and clear coated for ca $200 (not including the decals).
