I like fixed with flat pedals covered in grip tape. My bike shoes are whatever
regular shoes I have that have worn out. I love bike snob.

Personally, from my own experience, the ideal worry free shoe-and-pedal
system is loose-ish toe straps and boat shoes in summer, Safari boots in
winter. Both have soles that grip standard track or quill pedals, and
Bike snob skewered that article hard today, it was hilarious. As a nyc
rider I can tell you that one can ride the citi bike at 4mph for 10 minutes
in wooden shoes if you want. Don't take anything the times says so
seriously.
