This seems like a no brainer in my opinion. Roadeo frame. Use high quality
build from your other bike. Not all can afford 2 Rivs but if so the Hunq/Road
combo covers the full range with no overlap. If I end up with only 2 Rivs it
would be my 64cm Bombadil and my 68cm 2001 Custom. Even my
Don't get me wrong, the Pacer is a great bike. Just like the Long Haul
Trucker is a great bike. A lot of people used to say that if you can't
afford an Atlantis, then get a Trucker. Sure, they can do similar things,
but the LHT is not an Atlantis and it is not a Riv.
I am lucky enough to have
Interesting evaluation of the ride. Didn't Grant advise on the San Marcos?
That would explain the affinity between the SM and the Roadeo. I have to
agree that all the Rivs I ridden have something special about the ride,
even if I didn't like everything about the ride. The Sam Hill, on fast,
The Pacer is a nice bike and that is what I rode before my Rivendells.
However, it doesn't ride like a Riv and I got rid of it. I would go with a
San Marcos way before going with a Pacer. However, the Roadeo is much
nicer than both :).

I've not ever ridden one of these, but the recent reviews caught my eye. If
I were in the market for another road bike, I'd at least consider it.

Roadeo. You'll have both ends of the Rivendell stable represented and all
your riding covered without having the overlap producing one being the
"least ridden".
Besides that, it's very nice looking.

Thanks, everyone! I see a lot of votes for a Roadeo. I'm also intrigued by
the Black Mountain Cycles road model. More investigation is needed.
The feedback is much appreciated.

My inclination would be to go for the Roadeo. That would give you each end
of the Rivendell spectrum, with virtually zero overlap. You mention nice
Ultegra parts on the Soma, so build a Roadeo with that & sell of the too
small frame.

I have a couple thoughts on this. As you know, the roadish Rivendells are
the Roadeo, the Hilsen and the Hillborne. I'd say the Hillborne fits most
like a Hunqapillar, but maybe it's not sporty enough for you. The Hilsen
is lovely and sleek but still takes a ~40mm tire. The Roadeo is most
+1 -- good selection of choices. My own first choice would be the Roadeo.

check out A Homer Hilsen, for sure!! I had one and it was the perfect
complement to my Hunqapillar, but it was the wrong size so I sold it!.

I would go with a Roadeo frame and move the parts from the Smoothie over.
It's a really wonderful frame. If you want to spend a bit less, wait for a
Rambouillet to come up in your size. Or on the mysterious new Roadini...

How about wait for the new Riv single speed that is coming out or used
quickbeam / simpleone. Ever one should have a one speeder for fun and
challenge. Looks to me like your other bases are pretty well covered.

Sounds like a Roadeo would work

Riv has a demo Roadeo that looks like a good size and function fit:
