+ 1,000. Why, oh why do manufacturers of "cycling" pants cut them low in
back or, alternatively, with high crotches? I've owned any number of
high-end and low-end cycling shorts, knickers, and long pants that, this
defect apart, would have been wonderful, but instead cut them like low-rise

I’ve worn the Musa shorts for several years. I dislike the elastic belt
and the seams on the rear pockets did not hold for long….other than than,
great durable shorts for cycling.

Although a pair of pants (or maybe knickers) sound appealing, I don't
expect to buy the new ones.
I own an earlier generation of the grey/blue pants, with Velcro leg straps.
The material is fine, for what it is. My two primary beefs are the elastic
belt and the silly-low rise, which combine to
I have 2 pair long and 2 shorts from the first offering, the mustard color
ones. I wear them, but not as often as I used to. Great pants and shorts.
I like to rode with the pants when cook since I can cinch the bottom of
the leg opening.

I for one wish they were significantly shorter!

I agree with Frank about the belt. I put a non elastic web belt in both of
my pairs of shorts.

Had a pair on yesterday. I think I have 4 or 5 pairs and the only
complaint I have would be the belt. If they had a web belt they would be
the best shorts I've ever owned. Probably still are. I'll buy more.

Andrew, resounding yes! MUSA shorts have been one of my favorite Riv
garments too. Didn't know there was a version made with mesh pockets. The
four pairs I own must be 6-7 years old with (thankfully) solid pockets.
Still going strong.

BTW.. can anyone measure the inseam of their shorts and knickers?
Give the size of yours also. I know it has a diamond crotch, but if
you lay them down you can pinpoint where the crotch seam would be.
Thanks ...

Thanks for the replies. I think I may stick with Ex Officio's for
now. It doesn't sound like the elastic belt is what I'm looking for.

I'd prefer MUSAs with some spandex mixed in.

Sorry, not a direct comparison, but the MUSAs are pretty light and sturdy.
A little Spandex in them would be great, but they are good shorts!
These look like a real good option, that have some Spandex:

Don't have the knickers but I wear the Musa shorts and I've got a pair
of the Ex Officio pants that I'm pretty sure are the amphi's and are
definitely the super flyweight nylon.
The Musa's are lightweight but I wouldn't call it flyweight and the

I can't compare them directly to Ex Officio but they are really
lightweight nylon. Still tough, though. I use my knickers for a lot of
mountain biking (including occasional falling) and they are holding up
great. I also do errands in them a lot. The elastic keeps them up fine
for my road riding. F
