I'd echo Bill, i also have a early canti SH, i max out at 38-40mm with 48mm fenders--and most people would not find the clearances acceptable. i have Berthoud fenders on another bike and i think you could push a little more than other fenders of similiar size, but i'd not try anything bigger

It depends on what you mean by "can fit". Some people mean just that they won't rub in the stand. It is becoming increasingly common to demand far greater clearance between fender and tire for gravel riding. Jan is now saying 25mm of clearance all around is ideal, while a lot of people think
