It depends. You have to do the swap on pullback bars, but you could just rotate
them over on a flatbar and probably still have decent reach. But the swap is
what you're looking for if both sides are friction: You want the ratchet for
the rear derailer.

I just got a pair of these for a new build with flat bars but will probably
use them in the future on a build like this. In order to mount them on the
inside, do you have to swap shifters and use the front ratchet shifter for
the rear and the rear indexed/friction for the front?

I have the microshift internal on my bosco bars on the clem and there arent
any issues :dunno:
