Yeah - I'm with the others who said there are plenty of voluminous tires
with knibbly tread, other rim options and in general, another way to gain
max volume without resorting to crimping.
What was the mic'd measurement
I've become a big fan of the MSOs. Measured 38 when I put them on, nice
cushy ride, but pretty fast, actually very fast.

Sorta curious if a 47cm Toyo AHH (without kickstand plate) could fit a 650b
tire of similar girth to the RnRs. Does that even exist?
Looking to go fatter. Perhaps I'll simply go back to Rumpkins.

Man, if it were me I would certainly find a different tire before crimping
the stays. There are plenty of good tires that would fit the Hilsen.

I'd rather give up the tire, than irrevocably de-value the frame, and
maybe mess up the intended ride characteristics of the frame by crimping.
Maybe even be ruining the alignment of the frame unless you get exactly
identical crimps going on both stays?
I am no frame expert, though.
+1 on not crimping. And I'm no frame expert either. I'd be wary of
devaluing the frame set.
