It's the ride and riding position that always catches me out. I love the Brompton's British quirkiness, the lovely arc in the frame, the endless aftermarket parts you can throw at them and that magical fold. But I can barely ride the thing..it's quite twitchy on bumps and the narrow bars

Thanks, all; good information. I see various used Bromptons on eBay in the 1400-1600 range. OTOH, I also see reasons for putting that $ into fixing up that Libertas (fixed with 38 mm RH tires!), since the immediate interest in a Brompton is an Amtrak trip and I learned that you can wheel full
