I had the VO 50mm snakeskins on my sidepull 60cm Sam and did not notice any
problems. I ran Panaracer pasela 35s under them I think. I now have them
on my Appaloosa but I am going to move up to Berthoud 60mm, which I am sure
you were all dying to know.

Mine were R559 levers, too. Didn't touch fender when braking though. But
dictated fender height, which wasn't high enough for my comfort level. I
think with 38's would have plenty of clearance.

i dont have fenders on my sam anymore, but i think i had 52's when i did. i
could be remembering that wrong, but the clearances are pretty liberal. i
have 50mm tires on the bike now, under paul racers, and it's not super
tight yet.
