Another addition to this is a safety triangle that's mounted so as to
allow it to flop around a bit.  You have to play with this to make it
work but the idea is moving things attract attention better than
stationary things.  I have a triangle (size L from Riv) mounted on my
saddlebag so the bottom is loose & it can flap around a bit.  Combine
that with a swerve or jostle to improve your visibility.  Got the idea
from someone who mounted her triangle on a trunk bag but just in the
center, so it sort of rocks back'n'forth.  You can't be too visible
out there.
Second on the mirror.  Tour buses have the engine in the back, don't
go very fast, & can sneak up on you.  If you check traffic behind you,
you've got time to plan before something surprises you.  If you're on
a narrow 2 lane road with 2 trucks approaching one another, guess
who's the odd one out?  My mirror has helped me avoid a lot of
potentially dangerous situations.
