Just noticed these new Schwalbe 700x3538 Marathons on Wall Bike the other
day. Not quite so large but may have sufficient plush for the 700 crowd:

I might try them this fall if I can get enough time for a week plus tour I

I was gifted a set of Nomads recently from Dan M (THANKS!) and rode them on
Sunday's Ventura ride. Very positive initial impression:

The only thing that will change that is their durability which is still
TBD. I
Yup I got a set of these as well following that post and discussion. Im
really digging them too! Happy riding. -Mike

Durability/longevity will be the determining factor. I do have a bias for
light-zippy tires though (punctures be damned!).
Cheers,

David, also look into the BG rock and road tires, They look chunky,
but roll extremely well (like really well), similar to the Nomads,
especially after the center ridge wears a little. Really good mixed
terrain tires.

I've looked at those for sure, but they won't quite fit. I've also tried
the 50mm Big Apples http://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclotourist/2411066334/,
and they're not quite there. Those are the ones I REALLY wanted to work.
Regular 47mm
They fit.

Amen to that! Way back in the day when I first started using 559 wheels on
road, with both a Fatboy and a Specialized Turbo wheelset. I looked at the
tires' labels which said 110 psi so, eager to be a good citizen, I pumped
them to 110 psi. Nothing more hard and rough than a 35 mm tire at 110 psi!
If plush means cushy, that comes mostly---I didn't say entirely---from tire
pressure. Any psi feels harder in a bigger tire than it does in a softer
one. A weight-on hands riding position accentuates pounding. We have a free
brochure: How to make your bike as comfortable as a pillow. Email
Lower pressure = better ride, down to a point of working harder. You gotta
mess with it pay attention. As my tires have gotten chubbier, I'm using
lower pressures liking things better. 50 psi in a 40 mm Schwalbe
Marathon Supreme is a nice ride. After a few weeks they get hard to push

I just ordered some non-TG 37mm Paselas for the Rafi. I'd like something
bigger. This Vee Rubber V12 tire in 1.75 looks interesting.

Yeah, hose look like good options. Still not semi-slicks though. Probably
perfect for multi-surface type riding.

As a note - if I have understood it correctly, Continental includes _all_
layers in their tpi value, i.e. their 180 tpi tires have three layers of
60 tpi casing. Please verify/debunk/explain this if someone have any
knowledge about it...
I remember reading somewhere on wheelenergy.com that one
So, at great risk of oversimplification, relatively high TPI may . . .
- indicate a more supple tire, or not
- indicate a faster tire, or not
- indicate greater rider comfort, or not
- indicate greater susceptibility to punctures, or not
- indicate marketing hooey, or not
But
I've used the Supremes and also the Marathon Racer, which is only 700x38.
I think the Racer is slightly more plush. But neither match what would
probably be considered the standard in 650B.
Am wondering if the Soma tires are re-done Paselas? If so, the 700x37 size
might be the best bet. Those
700x35 Kojak, 700x37 Pasela, and 700x38 Marathon Racer, are probably the
closest to what you need. If you go to slightly knobby rubber, lots more
choices.

I run the Marathon racer, 26x1.6, on the tandem and like them a lot.
Tandems are notoriously hard on the stokers bottom so its important to
have comfortable tires, and these roll very nicely too. There may be
better tires for wet roads but we have ridden down significant hills in
driving
The Conti CX Speed comes in a 700x42 size (actual a bit narrower) and is
180tpi. I had a pair on my QB for a while that were very supple and fast,
only switched them out for something slightly narrower so I could run
fenders. The file tread is super minimal, you barely notice it on the
road.
I haven't ridden them but Vittoria Randonneur Hypers come in 38mm size and
they are 120 TPI. I've got a pair of 32mm Hypers and love them. My 40mm
Duremes are more comfortable but from a performance standpoint, the Hypers
are far superior.

I have been eying the new Continental Speed-Ride, 700 X 42C, 420 grams.

TPI (threads per inch) by itself doesn't really influence tire performance.
We once tested a Grand Bois prototype with twice the TPI next to a standard
tire, on the track, and found that both required the same power output. The
twice the TPI tire never was introduced. Instead, Grand Bois and

I've used Schwalbe Marathon Supremes (foldable) on my Atlantis for several
years, first in 35 and lately in 40 mm. At 50-60 psi, the ride is quite
nice. Plush is tough to define, and I've never ridden the Jack Browns, so
can't offer a comparison. I rarely get flats. In 40 mm, rears
