quite simply, there ain't nothing past lockup. I've been on my Weinmann
center pulls for 38 years in the TX hills, and my Rigida rims against them
for 35. While I have a spare wheelset, I don't have to - the original rims
are in great shape. With kool stop pads, I can lock them up, but it
I notice Grant's Atlantis on the staff bike page has V-brakes. I'm not
surprised. I run XTs on my trail bike. They are way nicer than the
sidepulls on my other bikes.

I don't find the difference in stopping power, only lever feel. The long
tektros result on more squish at the lever for me, even though the centerpulls
technically have more parts and joints to impart play.
I've never had a bike not stop due to brake system choice. But I dont ride in

It is good looking. It's nice to see how much reach those brakes have since
I'm using them for a build where max reach will be important. I think it's
about 75 mm max. Looks like it's set at minimum reach in front, but closer
to middle-reach in back, which is actually consistent with the
People in this thread keep talking about center pulls, then post links to

Ron Mc's link shows a bike with Dia-Compe centerpulls. I linked to photos
of a bike with sidepulls to compare brake pad position front and rear.
Those are the only links I saw.

I had DC 750 centerpulls on my side-pull Sam for a while. (Pics are
around here somewhere. Will post) They worked really well, looked nice (i'm
a sucker for symmetry) and cleared a 45mm fender and 35mm Pasela with ease.
The rear cable hanger must be improvised, obviously, so I used one of the
Same stopping power? I wonder if they would increase the clearance of a Ram.

That whole build is just plain beautiful to me! Interesting to see that
it's actually up for sale, I wish I had the funds.
Any reason to go center-pulls? More clearance/power/modulation?
