<soapbox>A bit of slightly off-topic advocacy here. I'd like to encourage
everybody who hasn't to register their bikes at bikeindex.org. If you don't
like public registration, that's cool, just make sure you record your
serial numbers and keep them safe somewhere. Having your serial numbers is
the most important thing if your bicycle is ever stolen.</soapbox>

I registered my Joe Appaoloosa, and here's the rec:

Here are the photos:

I'm participating in the Haleiwa Metric Century ride this coming weekend,
so I took off all the "extra" bits to streamline a bit. This is not a race,
but why carry the weight when I don't need to, eh?

The second photo was just a bit of play (there's nothing in the bags).
If/when I need to carry a TON of stuff, I anticipate putting the backabike
bags on the surly front rack, and putting ortlieb rolltops on the back
rack. It's worth noting that it is possible to mount a surly front rack on
a joe app, but it's kinda funky. The mid-fork eyelets are too high for the
surly rack, so I had to be a bit creative connecting that bit. (I think I
figured out the best solution on the 3rd configuration, which is not shown
in the photo.)

The third photo is when I did actually travel with a load. This worked, but
is not the optimum loading pattern, IMHO. I just did what had to be done
with what I had at the time. I rode like this from Sonoma to China Camp
(about 50 miles) and camped there one night. It rained. In the morning I
rode the 30ish miles to Embarcadero bart in the rain. It wasn't raining
hard, just the whole time. I was pretty wet, but I survived.

cheerios
