[RBW] Re: Jack Browns or Schwalbe Marathon Supremes?
Just a quick update. I finally saved up enough money to buy new tires (my priority has been funding a wheel from Rich Lesnik) and I went with the Vittoria Randonneur Hypers in 32mm. I have to say I am thrilled with the purchase!! The Vittorias are so much faster, cushier and they handle so much better than the Armadillos I've been riding. I know I will now ride more often and for longer periods of times. The tires really do make a difference! This has actually been a revelation for me and I plan to try other tires. They fit well, too. Every Vittoria I have used has mounted straight and true, securely snug but not overly tight, unlike some of the Panaracer-made tires I've had. They are also a fair bit less expensive than the Supremes. I like them, and there has been a fair bit of love for them from others on the iBOB list. [RBW] WTT: my Brooks Swift for your Flyer
Fellow Bunch-Mates, I have a nice Brooks Swift (black and copper) I'd like to trade for a Flyer. I had this on my QB initially, but replaced it with a B.17, which has been great. Now I'm thinking a sprung B.17 could be even better. This Swift http://tinyurl.com/7kzupz8 is used - or it's a good deal softer than a new one out of the box - but it clearly isn't fully broken in yet. It has been Obenaufed with love and devotion (but not too much!) and then put back on the parts shelf. Something of a tragedy really. I'd prefer (never to see it again) that it be used and enjoyed. I'm looking for a Flyer in similar condition. Color isn't really much of an issue. Please contact me off-list. I am currently trying to eliminate a truly annoying chain slip on my new-to-me 62 Hunq, and it occurred to me that I am using a new-to-me derailer, and that could be causing the problem. Should it cause me a problem? I have the sugino triple crank, and the standard riv 8 speed cassette 11-32. The derailer is a Shimano 105. I checked the range of the derailer when I set it up, it flexes out to the biggest ring on the cassette and is lined up to the smallest. Derailer hanger is not bent, also checked. Greased underneath the bottom bracket where the cables go through the cable guide. Silver shifters are beeswaxed and tightened. No apparent sticky link (i checked by paying close attention to the chain running through the RD, nothing was jumpy/weird). Slipping occurs under load, probably either in the middle or small chainring, happens when I stand up and try and crank (i am about 230 lbs). Help appreciated. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Cogs appear to be fine, probably less than 1000 miles on them. Haven't checked for slipping free hub - just remove wheel and check tension with cassette tool? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: Will a 9-speed Shimano 105 Derailer work with an 8 speed cassette (friction shifting)?
My first crack at something like that would be to turn the barrel adjuster a couple of turns counterclockwise. If that doesn't help, I'll try to think of something else. jim m wc ca On Saturday, July 7, 2012 7:45:44 PM UTC-7, Zack wrote: I am currently trying to eliminate a truly annoying chain slip on my new-to-me 62 Hunq, and it occurred to me that I am using a new-to-me derailer, and that could be causing the problem. [RBW] Re: Shimano hubs.
I'm currently running 36-hole Ultegra hubs on my Sam and I'm very pleased with them. I borrowed an XT hub wheelset from a friend a while back and feel that the quality is comparable. If you can spring for a 105 or an Ultegra hub, there's definitely enough axle real estate to properly space it to 135mm. I beat the crap out of my Ultegra setup (I'm 190 pounds) and they've been worry free for a couple years now. Deore hubs are still available although they appear to be made only in black. That totally sucks. I've found XT hubs to be great and have them on most of my bikes. Furthermore, Shimano appears to have streamlined their V-brakes. I guess as soon as road bikes are being made with disc brakes it'll be hard to find road calipers. It's not like this is the end of the world, there's plenty of options but I've found the XT hubs to be a great value. I'll definitely be looking to scoop up a set of LX hubs to put aside. --mike -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Tour De Clack
Tour De Clack (short for Clackamas… it's a River and a County in Oregon) The TDC was promoted as an informative bike ride around the Clackamas River watershed with stops at a variety of restoration projects. It delivered but the stops were mostly at obscure little tributaries and were kind of underwhelming. But How can I complain about a 30-mile ramble through beautiful country on a warm summer day? Number of…… on the Tour De Clack Rivs… 1 Bridgestones… 1 (an XO-4… no picture) Tall Bikes... 1 (also, no picture but it was painted green and was flying a shamrock flag) 2nd top tubes (aka the undertube)… 1 People riding 23mm tires who started a conversation with me by complaining how rough the roads are… 1 (my response was diplomatic… something about not feeling the vibration is the payoff for pushing 40mm tires. ) People who asked me if my AHH was French… 1 Women who wrote down Rivendell A. Homer Hilsen because her husband is too tall for his current bike and she wants him to get a bike that actually fits a tall guy… 1 Pics tell the rest of the story.https://picasaweb.google.com/113148323994353762329/TourDeClack?authuser=0feat=directlink --Andy -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: Will a 9-speed Shimano 105 Derailer work with an 8 speed cassette (friction shifting)?
I think the best course of action is to send the bike to me for an immediate going-over and test ride. My immediate thought is bad chain... either stretched or sticky link. But you say you checked. Is the rest of the drivetrain new? --Andy On Saturday, July 7, 2012 7:45:44 PM UTC-7, Zack wrote: I am currently trying to eliminate a truly annoying chain slip on my new-to-me 62 Hunq, and it occurred to me that I am using a new-to-me derailer, and that could be causing the problem.
