After much delay, I finished my wife's Hilborne and gingerly tested the 11-speed-to-10-speed hack. Much to my surprise, it works. Removing one of the gear rings keeps the spacing correct, so the transmission thinks it's still got eleven gears in the back, but the now-10-speed cluster fits
