I don't have a shop sack, but I can offer a hearty endorsement for the Swift
Sugarloaf, which I've used as a daily carry for about four years now. It's more
expensive and smaller volume (I think), but also made in USA, top notch
quality, nearly waterproof, and has some organization pockets etc.
I’m referring to any $200 bag made in San Francisco of organic hemp and
compostable plastic buckles, vs. the $50 Wald bag (and that cost includes
the basket).
Sorry, I just get a little burned out by bag preciousness :)

Thanks Justin, yes, I was referring to the Wald made bags. I am going to
be using my old Trek 412 as a fixed gear commuter/errand bike and I was
going to order a rack from Wald direct yesterday when I saw their bags.
Based on the feedback from Tim and Eric, I'm in for one. Thanks y'all.

Riv's Sackville ShopSack large and medium are likely my favorite and most
used bags... for many things bike and not bike.
Medium is great for Wald 137; Large is v. large and fits Wald large basket.
Durable, water resistant (water can and does go through the zipper in
sustained rain). I like

If you're talking about the Shopsacks, I love them. They're one of my
favorite bags on and off the bike. I don't even have a basket on my bike
and I use it all the time. Pro tip: I have a rack with a mousetrap (a la

+1 to Tim’s comments. I have the bigger one that I use all the time, and I
really value it. Made in the USA too! I think these bags are both under
rated and overlooked as people spend a lot more money on fancier offerings.

My favorite bike of all time, the 1999 Joe Starck gofast, with purity of
line marred by Camper Longflap, since the bike is in temporary grocery mode
while the 2003 serves as sacrificial model for its (God willing)

Yeah their stuff is pretty expensive, but not over-priced. Might be
overkill for a lot of people though (not unlike a $1500 lugged steel
frameset ;) ). Pricing is definitely a product of quality of materials and
MUSA labour, and their stuff is more labour-intensive to make than a shop
sack,
I also think that Swift. Outer Shell, Ruthworks, ILE, etc. are priced to
allow livable wages where the bag makers live, which I think is a very
important factor.

Here is your basic question: *"Has anyone built a Clem up with lighter
parts? Does it make a big difference? As in, is it worth the money?"*
To pick an analogy, in the world of race cars, the adage is that *"Speed
costs money."* The question of how much money it costs can be turned on its
head

I've had my new Atlantis for one week now, and have taken it on one 4 hour

Hello Folks
In the off chance someone will be driving North from San Diego to the Bay and
have room for a 45 Clem Smith Jr, either inside or on a rack, in the next week
or so.
My daughter wants her bike to try bike commuting to her WholeFoods job.
We can compensate the same as BikeFlights
I sort of agree with LeRoy EXCEPT I see no reason not to spend some cash on the
wheels for the Clem, even if you'll go all in on the Cheviot later.
Most of the weight you *feel* on a Clem while pedaling - especially up hill -
is in those hefty budget hoops, I think you would get a kick out of

I rode tubulars on an 80's steel road bike for a few years. I am a younger,

Just to add to the "weight" thing. It is less about the weight but rather about
the associated thickness/flexibility of the tube set used. For many people a
bike built with thinner walled smaller diameter tubes will ride with less

I’m not fully committing to this yet. Roberta and I get into trouble because we
talk on Marco Polo and then we get ideas and then we like each other’s ideas
and the next thing we know our wallets are on fire.
So, I am ordering a Cheviot, and I am spending extra $ to build it with light
parts.
I decided to use the lightest rear rack (aluminum old school Trek USA) in my
rack collection during my quarantine Clem build. The build began as a Boeshield
frame spray so I really got a feel for the weight of the frame. Mines a 59, so
large. I’m sticking to only one rack, no fenders. Utility
Then there's the one on Leah's Clem which is even taller and I'd never heard of
until she found it somewhere. Will @ Riv didn't know about it, either.
