Re: [RBW] Looking for a 54cm rambouillet
Mine is an orange 62cm, currently fit with Continental Gatorskin 32s (caliper measures them at 29 mm) with some Honjo H27 fenders. Can't speak to clearance variations between the frame sizes. [RBW] Re: Wide mouth Canti's
A friend of mine just set up a carbon cyclocross bike. He set it up all Campy, including these brakes: Campy Cross http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Campagnolo-CX-Brakes-Cantilever-Front-Rear-Black-Cyclocross-Cross-Bike-/331327054763?pt=US_Brakeshash=item4d24a1a3ab The pads are shortish, road-length ones, which helps. The other thing that was notable on my friend's bike is that the canti-posts on his frame and fork were really tall. They held the brakes far away from the fork blades and seatstays. It was the combination of the tall posts and the short brakepads that made his brakepads totally clear the frame and open super wide. Any tire his frame will take will clear, fully inflated. There's an advantage to having short posts. They flex less. The advantage to long posts is you can get super fat tires through more easily. Eric, I live in Lodi in Central California. Its a wine grape growing region and we have a lot of 2 lane country roads. Also 15 miles east we have a lot of hills. In both areas there are a lot of poorly maintained road surfaces. I have been riding the Grand Bois Cerfs 700x28 for years. They're expensive but last twice as long as the old 23 and 25 highend tires I have used in the past. I run 60lbs and 70lbs front and rear on A23 rims. I am trying the new Compass 700x32 normal weight currently and really like them. I have been running 50lbs,60lbs front rear. I have never had a pinch flat on any of these tires. I weight about 175. [RBW] Re: Wide mouth Canti's
I once put this question to the guys at Paul's. They claim (know or believe?) that if you move the canti front pads forward of the fork blades you increase the possibility of shudder. I have found that replacing the long pads with shortys makes no discernible difference in braking and widens the opening by 4 or 5 mm. The tip of the rubber still hits the fork on my Pauls as compared to the fat of the cartridge. [RBW] Re: Berthoud bag/Marks rack mounting question
The Berthoud quill decaleurs only come in two lengths 91 and 121 mm which, even with the hinging capability do not fit on all bikes. Berthoud makes some shorter extensions but those come with the solid clamp for two-bolt threadless stems. All the US distributers only sell the 4 different models, no mixing and matching unless you buy one of each if you want to fine tune the length.I had a frame/rack builder make a custom extension to fit my bike, using the rest of the Berthoud parts. It was much cheaper than buying two full decaleurs see this https://www.flickr.com/photos/37347002@N05/14890705388/ The other custom bag maker to contact is Ely at Ruthworks, also a NorCal based person. Both do beautiful work. If you like the Berthoud bags, get the larger one and a Berthoud decaleur, I think it will fit given your bike dimensions, if not, having a custom extension is fairly inexpensive to have made. ~mike Carlsbad ca. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. http://janheine.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/cantistraightpull.jpg Here's some old designs. Number 5 gives you lots of clearance for wheel removal. Number 6 eliminates post flex completely, but try to get your fat tire out. I pulled this from the BQ blog, obviously. I am trying the new Compass 700x32 normal weight currently and really like them. I have been running 50lbs,60lbs front rear. I have never had a pinch flat on any of these tires. I weight about 175. The Compass 28mm tires should last a lot longer than the Cerf 28s. The Cerf is a great riding tire, but it has an event tread: very, very thin. Mine only lasted around 1300 miles (compared to 6,000 miles for the 30 mm Cypres). Best part is, there's no penalty for this additional wear: the whatever-Pass 28mm tires ride every bit as nice as the Cerfs. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Re: [RBW] Re: Minneapolis country bike rally
Anne, The fat bikes were fun. The new Ice Cream Truck is the best of the bunch. Well, except for a Ventana with a shocked fork. However, when all was said and done, if I were to buy a new fatbike, it would be an ECR. That is more my preference in both handling and comfort while riding. We spent the rest of the afternoon riding the Missisippi river bottoms. Basically hardpacked sand/mud with occasional stretches of sand. There were a couple of Rivendells on that ride, but most of the riders were on fatbikes or other Surly bikes. (I rode my Surly Ogre with 2.3 inch tires and someone else was on a Surly Troll.) Unfortunately, due to job (yesterday) and band practice (tomorrow) am unable to make the other events. Jim or someone else will need to post a report. All in all, a fun day.
