Thanks for another thoughtful and inspiring post, Patrick. More years ago
than I care to say, learning to ride a bike helped me to fit into a new
family, a new school, a new life, really. Twenty years ago, bikes made it
possible for me to get back into something that I had enjoyed, but
My bikes make it possible for me to be fit, healthier, happier, and have a
group of friends who share the activity.
My Roadeo allows me to hang with the fast dudes on the club rides in
comfort.
My Sam allows me to go bike camping or touring with ease.
My mountain bike (trek fuel) allows me
My bike use is mostly utility. We have a general rule that works well. If
it is less than 5 miles, we take one of the bikes.
This year I upgraded most of the cargo systems. We had been using cheap
racks with Wald folding baskets. I replaced the cheap racks with Tubus Logo
Evos and Ortleib
Looks great! The 1x for a country bike really is an attractive option. I'd
put my Hunqapillar to that except for the need for lower gearing
bikepacking.
With abandon,
Patrick

Still restless this winter, with spectacular weather outside but not able
to ride anywhere near as much as I would like. Normally I'd work out my
anxieties and frustration with another build project, but my garage is
packed, so I look for problems that don't exist and fix them.
I really like 1x setups. For the relatively flat Midwest terrain I ride,
it's all the gears I need outside of touring or kid pulling. It also lets
me easily switch between geared and single speed.
And it looks slick! Well done!

I wouldn't dream of trying to get down to seconds for accuracy, and

My bikes make possible:
A healthier and more enjoyable commute
Healthy and fun family outings and multi day tours with my children
Restorative solo rides

I think a 1XN is a perfectly reasonable drivetrain setup, given the right
mix of pedaling styles, riding preferences, and local terrain and ambient
conditions. When I took delivery of my '03 Curt in ... '03! -- it had been
built as a 1XN, with -- I'll bet it's the only one Rivendell has ever sold
Good work Bill! I run basically the same drivetrain on my daily driver
commuter with a thumbie shifter and it's so easy and maintenance-free.

Bikes make it possible for me to turn a 3 mile round trip to the Post
Office or grocery store by car into a 15 or 20 mile detour by bike.

Thanks for the advice, friends. My doctor and his team are very
conservative, but I'm doing my exercises now, will take full advantage of
the 6 weeks off work to do PT 3 days a week, and hope to wow everyone with
how quickly I'm back on my Betty Foy.

Bikes make it possible...
Work, play, camaraderie, education, imagination... honestly it has
channeled or funneled my interest for so many things only narrowly tied to
the bike itself.
Regular bike commuting in particular (which I'm doing poorly at so far this
year) has been the biggest eye
I saw you tonight. 10:40pm. Sunday. I passed you as we were riding South on
E. Marginal Way S. You were on a blue Rambouillet
Looks cool! Be sure to update us on how you like the ride after taking it
out a few times. I live in the area and probably ride a lot of the same
places, curios how you end up liking it,

Also, what color tape and shellac is that? I'm trying to achieve something
similar.

I can ride to work and achieve a level of clarity otherwise (negatively)
