[RBW] Current favorite tires in 60mm

2022-06-03 Thread Ray Varella
I’ve been riding the Schwalbe G one in 60mm x 650B on my Clem
In an attempt to decode the various iterations of Schwalbe tires, the
Evolution casing are the lightest casing followed by the “performance”
line.

I would love to find these tires or the all road version in 70mm but only
the performance casing seems to be available.

I’ve ridden a number of Compass/Rene Herse tires as well as Gran Bois and
these G ones suit my usage just great.
Until either companies produce a 55mm or greater in smooth tread, I don’t
think there is a better fat smooth tread tire out there.

Does anyone have a favorite 55mm or larger multi purpose tire?

Ray

[RBW] WTB- RB-1 or Rambouillet

2022-06-03 Thread Chris Fly
Good Evening,

I'm on the hunt for a 54.5 RB-1 (that can take a 130 hub) or a 54/56 Ram
(interested in thoughts on Ram sizing). Ideally looking for a frameset
(with headset already?)

Thanks,
Chris

2022-06-03 Thread Leah Peterson
I’m so happy to hear from you. Congrats on a wonderful new bike! I’ve been
waiting and waiting to hear about the shipment of Rosco Plats and the next
Platys that were slated to come this summer but there has been no word. Has
anyone asked Rivendell about those shipments lately? The mixtes are just so
good that I wish a Rivendell mixte for everyone. Anyway, thanks for the post

Thanks, Erik and others. Garth, come to think of it, I think that I did
ask this before -- more Ralph Wiggumry. Oh well.

And I would prefer disc brakes, tho' that's not a deal breaker.

Also, any Monocog replacement would be a single speed, or perhaps use a
hub gear -- typical wide range 3 speed or perhaps a 2 speed kickback; but
probably just a simple single speed.

The dealbreaker tho' is 76 mm tires with 5 mm clearance on each side,
so 86 mm between stays at tire level.

Garth, I find that an extra cm of width and corresponding 5 psi or so
drop in pressure makes a huge difference when negotiating sand. 60 mm at
 19
psi is much better than 50 mm at 23 psi, but 71-2 mm at 13-15 psi is even
better, and 76mm+ I daresay would improve things further.

[RBW] Re: WTB: 65cm Clem H (or something similar)

2022-06-03 Thread Michael Waldschmidt
Hi,

While you’re at it: I’m looking for a big bike too: Clem L or Appaloosa,
etc. 64cm, 65cm, or larger? Not looking for a road bike, exactly, (that’s
for my 1990 Waterford, WI Schwinn Paramount, 68cm)

Height - 6’8”
PBH~100cm

Jack’s in 1st place for the bike, of course.

Thanks!

Mike

Re: [RBW] Re: Who got the first ever Rosco Platypus?

2022-06-03 Thread Zach Hale
Handles fine, to be honest. I'm not sure how much weight, but panniers have
all my camping gear and clothes for an overnight, tools and cook set in
rear bag, and the basket mostly full of food and drink and cameras. I was
worried the geo wouldn't handle front weight as well and while it's not
like some bikes I tour on that are more specifically designed for carrying
front weight, the upright fit and swept handlebars really do make up for a
lot of the downsides introduced by loading a higher trail front end like
this. I will keep playing around, but I was pleased and will ride it like
this again without hesitation. I bought this after touring with my 52 clem
L and 45 clem H and my hope was that it was stiffer than the 52 L but had
more of the long bike ride feel than the relatively short 45 H. I'm so far
pretty pleased with the balance. The 52 clem L rides amazingly unloaded
(better than this), but this is for sure better feeling for touring with
its stouter construction.

Re: [RBW] FS: A bunch of nice parts I was accumulating for a build that isn't happening

2022-06-03 Thread Seth Kruckenberg
The Crust bars, seatpost and Paul Components have sold.

The following items remain available:

Nitto Technomic Stem (26.0 clamp, 120mm) $45 (new in box) [Picture

I'd also like to sell these as a pair. I had installed the 38T on my
Appaloosa for 5 miles before I decided to get a different crank so it has
minimal use. 24T is unused. They were $88 for both new, would like to sell
for $60 for the pair.
