I've wondered if a shop that historically installed a lot of these would
have a stock of the varied sizes leftover as stored parts. Rivendell
probably built quite a few bikes with them and if they didn't always use a
single size . . .?
I have a set of these brakes with no spares and figured
Roberta,
I was worried about being last, too, and was determined to avoid it. I
started out cruising then remembered to take a page out of the "ride like
Leah" handbook, she told me recently she keeps it in a high gear most of
the time and just GOES. So I did the same and just WENT!* 藍
Brooks sold!

That does look like fun.
I rode in John H’s (from this board) club metric century (or metric 1/2
century) fundraiser in south NJ this year. No beautiful lake like you had,
but gentle rolling hills and pretty views. I’m sure much easier than what
you rode.
I did the 1/2 century and am happy
Eric Daume asked: "what are you finally doing with the rear brake when you
change gears?"
The question implies that the questioner thinks there is something that
needs to be done.
Nothing needs to be done! My two gears are 38x16 and 35x19. Those two
gears are supported by the same chain

I’m tentatively planning to be there. I will arrive Friday evening and have
to leave late morning Sunday. I’d love to meet Riv people! Roberta and I
have met a few times in real life on my turf but this will be my first time
on hers! I’ve been dying to meet Pam Murray and she will be at the
Very true Garth. I'm not unwilling to kluge a solution together, and was
about to do that very thing, but thought I'd see if someone has these
sitting unused in a bin somewhere.

You know you could likely find your own washer "add-ons" at a hardware
store. That right, use your existing washers and find a like ID and OD
washer to those. Stack as many as you need for the extra 4mm, or more, or
less. I'm all for using what you got when possible !
On Sunday, October 2,
I miss my Bell helmet.

Probably a long shot, but anyone hording bits and pieces from Shimano CX70
cantilevers? I've got the brakes, but need to swap out the medium (14mm)
washers for large (18mm) to fit a new frame. The CX50 version is available,
but I'm trying to keep everything matchy-matchy.
thanks!!

So what are you finally doing with the rear brake when you change gears?

You are more than welcome, J J.
I was looking at metal fenders on that site and came across those and
thought of you.

I just listed a Clem L for sale as well, so I borrowed some copy from the
ad in Berkeley. Mine's a 45cm, though, and pretty much unridden (<10
miles). It doesn't seem to have posted yet when I searched craigslist but
the link from the email is here ( 2020 Rivendell Clem L 45cm (Small) -
Yes it was the last one, whicn was cancelled for the pandemic in '20 and

Looks like so much fun, Joe. Does farewell mean this was the last such
ride? Brought back memories of a boating and waterskiing trip to Clear Lake
a while back. Beautiful.
And your bike looks awesome as usual. What size tires are you running?

Ok technically I pedaled NEAR it, this was the farewell Pedal The Puddle
ride at Clear Lake CA. and they didn't do the loop around the lake this
year, just the 20 and 40 milers. I did the 20 which was billed as a "family
fun ride" but the first 8-or-so miles were pretty serious and steep to me!
I made one significant change to my Road Single speed. I decided that my
beloved White Industries VBC-based double chainset is better suited on a
wider rear OLD. The front chainline is wider than optimal, the chainring
to chainstay clearance is signficant, and the resulting Q-factor is good,
