[RBW] Re: Any Alternatives to Silver Deore Brake Levers?

2024-01-18 Thread R. Alexis
Which ones are you referring to? The short pull standard canti/side
pull/U-Brake/Rollercam brake lever or the long pull, linear/V-Brake lever?

Thanks,

Reginald Alexis

Thanks Brad! I'll wait another week and see what other colors may pop up.

[RBW] Re: FS: Albastache, Moustache, matching stem, and brake levers

2024-01-18 Thread Bill Lindsay
1. Albastache handlebar. Nitto RM017. 26.0mm clamp. Claimed. Payment
Pending
2. Moustache handlebar. Nitto RM016. 26.0mm clamp. Claimed. Payment
Pending
3. SRAM S500 brakelevers in silver. SOLD

4. XO-1 Nitto Ritchey stem. 26.0mm clamp. 22.2mm quill for a 1" threaded
fork installation. This is the actual stem from an XO-1. The extension
part is 100mm long center to center, and I'd call it a +10 degree rise.
I'm offering this up only on the off chance that you have an XO-1 or a
plan to do an XO-1 restoration build and want it to be totally period
correct. Pair this with the Moustache bar above and you'll be totally
stock. I paid top dollar for this stem when it came available because I
knew/know it's kind of a unicorn. It's still a useful shape for some drop
bar applications, so I'm content to keep it. Asking $150 plus shipping.

Re: [RBW] Re: RAGBRAI?

2024-01-18 Thread Brady Smith
Here's my two cents:

I did RAGBRAI last year with my parents, both of whom have done it more
than a dozen times (I grew up in Cedar Rapids).

My dad managed to snag hotels or rooms in family/friend homes reasonably
close to each town, which made a real difference in the heat. I remember
seeing "103" as I climbed the final hills into Iowa City. Coming from Utah,
I'm no stranger to triple digits, but triple digits and humid really calls
for care in hydration.

My parents had planned on each riding half days and swapping the car
halfway, though illness kept my dad from participating beyond day 1. Being
much younger, I rode everything, and especially enjoyed the Iowa Craft Beer
stops along the way. Great beer, excellent food, constant party atmosphere,
and a lot of fun strangers to talk to.

Not sure I'll do it again, mostly because I have other adventures on which
to spend the few days away from home I am accorded each year. But I'm very
glad I did it, especially since my dad's illness turned out to be cancer.
He's doing quite well, as far as leukemia goes, and the doctor's say he has
a very good chance of living long enough to die of something else. A
RAGBRAI nostalgia tour turned out to be a perfect way to close one chapter
of his life and open another.

Happy riding,

Brady in SLC

SO PRETTY.

Leah and I were talking and although a great RIDING bike is most important,
I think it elevates the ride if one also smiles at it too for being so
pretty/ practical / high end items or whatever makes one smile.

Enjoy the ride!

Bill, I would happily rehome your albastache bar, and could swing by on my
way to/from SF to fetch it.

[RBW] FS: Albastache, Moustache, matching stem, and brake levers

2024-01-18 Thread Bill Lindsay
I reconfigured the cockpit on a couple bikes and have some cockpit parts
available for sale. If you've got a roadish alt-cockpit in mind, these may
serve your plans.

1. Albastache handlebar. Nitto RM017. 26.0mm clamp. Heat treated.
Bought from Rivendell. The ones Riv sells now are 25.4mm clamp diameter,
and cost $121. I'm asking $60 plus shipping. The Newbaums adhesive
residue is artisinally curated.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/45758191@N04/53470067032/in/datetaken/
https://www.flickr.com/photos/45758191@N04/53471284844/in/datetaken/
https://www.flickr.com/photos/45758191@N04/53470968461/in/datetaken/

2. Moustache handlebar. Nitto RM016. 26.0mm clamp. Heat treated. These
came on a Rivendell Romulus that I recently acquired. Ben's Cycle sells
these for $99. I'm asking $50 plus shipping.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/45758191@N04/53471110843/in/datetaken/
https://www.flickr.com/photos/45758191@N04/53471388955/in/datetaken/
https://www.flickr.com/photos/45758191@N04/53471110618/in/datetaken/

3. SRAM S500 brakelevers in silver. The S500 has that little tilt to
them, so if you run them backwards (swap left and right) the tilt matches
the droop of a Moustache or Albastache bar. TRP RRL have the same feature.
The S500 levers sell for $84 retail now, but you can only get them in
Black. Silver doesn't exist at any price. I'm asking $80 plus shipping.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/45758191@N04/53471812786/in/datetaken/

[RBW] Any Alternatives to Silver Deore Brake Levers?

2024-01-18 Thread Batwing
Hey All,

Silver Shimano Deore Brake Levers are all but extinct. Do you have any
silver alternatives that will stand in for these excellent levers? These
were cheap and good: A combo that is hard to find these days.

Anyone have a pair in good shape they would like to part with?

[RBW] Re: WTB: Mavic Reflective Vest

2024-01-18 Thread Garth
Eric, It appears the vest fabric is still good, yes ? If so can you sew, or
know someone who does ? Fabric stores and/or online shops sell sew-on
reflective trim/tape sold by the yard/meter. It need not be placed where
the other tape is either. FWIW, some fabric adhesive like McNett Seam Grip
+WP 1oz. works very well for adhering to fabrics, I'm not sure how well it
would adhere to the reflective strips falling off. If not Seam Seal, maybe
some Locitie Vinyl, Plastic and Leather 1oz. glue might work.
