Okay thanks all for the advice. Perhaps the 58 does not seem so over size in
person. I have a 59 San Marcos which is a great fit but it's been 650B'd so I'm
trying to factor in taller 29er wheels and bigger tires to what the standover
clearance would be. San Marcos is already fairly "up there"
Anyone here have attempt 42mm 650b tires with aluminum fenders and a max
clearance brake like Paul center?
I have seen several builds with 38mm w/fenders and 42mm w/o fenders
Certainly the holy grail is both!

Well I had a bike shop build up a bike and one day the quill stem slipped and
handlebars rotated and I did nearly crash so yes you might say your life could
depend on it. I don't think it would be rocket science but if you're the type
of person who even would read or be aware of lists like this
I'm curious what's considered ideal torque for nitto quil stems. Most anecdotal
advice is "just firm it up good and tight" like it's no big deal. But if it's
too tight it could bulge and damage the steerer tube. Not tight enough it could
slip can result in a really bad crash. So what's ideal in

mechanic tended to booze a lot and be high on the job) I just always cranked it
real good to ensure it wouldn't slip again. But I wondered if maybe I was
overdoing it and bulging the steerer. Anyways seems fine but

My understanding was that this version was a modification that was made just
for a short run before the cheviot. In essence, the big one was a 62cm
Gomez/foy that had a shorter head tube with the kink-y top tube. Then they
shrunk the seat tube to a 60 yet made the head tube taller and made the

indeed better/awesome. The key is to use short/er cranks because as noted, the
bb is already low. 165mm or shorter is ideal

64cm still has the old 71.5 head angle which feels and rides great. My old
cheviot with 70deg and extra offset is my reference point. If what you say is
true then the 59 is actually longer front center than the 64

My aluminum 58cm boscos flex like crazy. They are super light and thin walled
tubing. The flex is so much I wonder if they would break but probably just in
my head. There is extra comfort from the flex a bit like doing push-ups on a
diving board instead of concrete

I have a handsome Big Cheviot silver paint job that was modified by Bilenky
and repainted
As well as canti posts (Paul Motolite), there was some slight carving in
the chain stays and bridge for increased clearance
It will comfortably clear 55mm 700c tire. (I can fit a 60mm in the front)
Due to the brake bridges being modified for increased tire clearance they
will not attach fenders
