It uses a proprietary cable pull ratio according to pinkbike - ties you into their shifter and rules out comboing the rear derailleur with brifters on a dropbar setup. Alas, Sunrace have got a clutch-equipped 9sp rear derailleur in the pipeline too (RDM900.MD). It'll use conventional 8/9sp
