Re: [RBW] Best Rivendell for pavement riding

tubes.

Reminds me of a mountain bike I saw parked at my WDC apartment back

Re: [RBW] Re: daily post ur riv

2019-04-22 Thread 'Jonathan Poor' via RBW Owners Bunch
Hi Doug,

Sorry, I didn't see your question til just now... that's cool about your
99 riv std... our bikes are like brothers... is there a picture?

I really like the wood rims -- they are 36 hole, and they are built up with
DT revolution spokes, which adds to the overall sensation of springy-ness.
The rims are roughly 400 grams, which makes them equivalent weight-wise to
many box section tubular rims, and lighter than the "aero" flavors... The
only hassle really is that I have to swap out brake pads when switching
wheels -- I use a cork-compound dura-ace brake pad meant for carbon rims
(and wood is basically carbon fiber, right?). On the plus side, when I
brake hard with this setup, I get a nice wood-smoke aroma wafting up...

[RBW] Re: Pedal Strike - LongLow

2014-05-21 Thread 'Jonathan Poor' via RBW Owners Bunch

On one of my bikes, I have stiff plastic toe-straps. (I think they are
actually Campy straps) The ends of the straps sort of point downward from
the end of the pedal. They work sort of like a pedal-strike warning
whisker. I know to back off if the strap starts brushing the road...
