I ride alone 99 percent of the time. I ride my ss if I'm only riding on a short
15 miles ride without a ton of incline. If I'm riding further into the country
I take my geared bike for the hills at until I'm in better shape I only have
short spurts of dirt and gravel available from my house. So
I really enjoy my Handsome Fredward singlespeed with Phil hubs. It's currently
not a Rivendell but it is a nice enough frame and fork for a good price. Good

I love my SS with 38 Barlow Pass tires it’s my go to bike. I currently have a
Donutsack rear bag and a front small bag. With White Industries freewheel it
couldn’t be any better. I tend to take it over my geared bikes.

Yes it’s just gravel other than the pavement to get back and forth. That’s why
I think the Pumpkin Ridge tires work so well for both pavement and gravel.

My Pumpkin Ridge tires are as comfortable as my Baby Shoe Pass tires and were
perfect for the 10 miles total pavement and gravel. At times I have to decide
to take the risk of riding on back country roads in Ok. The nice scenery and
plush tires made for a nice first attempt at gravel and I felt

Not the same but I grind mine the night before then float a cheesecloth bag I
found mine at NG’s and leave it in your Kleen Canteen overnight and take it
with you on your bike. Take the bag home and dispose of the grounds in your

It’s my Fredward(Handsome)singlespeed and I know it can take 40 without fenders
and will take fenders with the Compass Barlow Pass so it’s pretty versatile to
just use the Compass tires! I do love the Barlow’s!

What would be a good choice for a 40mm tire comparable to a Compass tire? I can

I had a Brooks saddle that had the same issue and I had to give it away because
one of the rivets was raised to much and they would not warrant the saddle so I
carefully tried to sand the rivet down which wasn’t enough for me.The person I
gave it to wears jeans so he has made do with it.

I decided to reimagine my 650B so my Sam and the 650B were not so similar. It
is now a single speed and I have had SS bikes off and on for a long time. I
know I coast more than usual however it’s the perfect gear for the hills around
here. I really love the simplicity.

Patrick your frame is stunning! Are you able to have more choices with your
gearing on your fixed cogs by making these changes? You might have answered
this question or is it easier for you to use fenders? Either way the colors are
spectacular.
