Re: [RBW] Bike Racks, non hitch recommendations.
Hi Joel, That makes sense to me! I use mine a ton so I’ve found value in the relatively high cost. Adding it to your wife’s car is also a major deterrent! [RBW] Bike Racks, non hitch recommendations.
I know you said non hitch... but you should really just get a hitch installed if you can. I’ve gotten one installed even on my VW GTI (Golf) that sits pretty low to the ground. If you go to a reputable local hitch installing business, you should end up out the door with hitch for under $300. I am really awkward with lifting bikes and my bikes tend to be heavy. The hitch racks are so easy to use and some protect your bike better (less scuffs). Nate -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Re: [RBW] Re: XO-1 or Roadini
I just bought a new 54cm roadini this week, built it up with mostly leftover parts (as quick as possible without sleeping) and took it for a shake down ride in the hills yesterday evening. The ride climbs 1200 ft or so on not great roads and descends quickly on pretty sketchy road. I ride this a couple time a week on my Atlantis or Sam. On the Roadini, I was in a bigger gear the whole time. I was suddenly passing several carbon bikes. The ride was twitchier than my other bikes but still very stable. Def a fast roadish bike even (maybe because of?) with 38mm Barlow pass el. The stack and reach on the roadini make it more suited for drops than any other riv without funny stems. If I had to have one bike and choose between a homer and a roadini, I’d take the homer for the utility, smoothness, and lugs. Roadini is a really good second or third bike. [RBW] Nitto Campee 34F front rack
I rode with this rack on my Sam for about a year and did a long tour with it. The awesome thing is you can just keep loading the thing and you won’t have any problems. There are a few negatives: -really heavy -makes handling sluggish -low rider rails really aren’t that low -overly stiffens the fork so that you get no fork flex. Ride ends up being a bit rougher. I’ve converted to Marks rack plus hub area racks for panniers. Handling is much better this way. I gave my brother this huge front rack for his Clem and he claims he could not live without it. Hey John, Thanks for the link. Despite what the numbers say, I'm actually really happy with the Berthoud in the current setup. Hi John, I currently have the S83 (26.8) on my Atlantis. I actually own a beautifully lugged S84, but that lives on my Sam since it is a 27.2 and won’t fit in my Atlantis’ seat tube. That’s probably why I don’t have this issue with my Sam on drop bars! Andrew, Gorgeous! Can’t wait to get Craig’s saddle! Maybe a little tall or out of your price range, but an RB-1 for $500 is a really good deal. You’re not going to find a more rivish non riv road bike. Re: [RBW] FS: MUSA Atlantis. 56 cm / 650b
I’d like to say that I own this exact frame and it is excellent. Here are some pluses: -Excellent tire clearance. I’m running 650x2.3 in tires and maybe have room for fenders. -Looks. Almost flat top tube and chain stays that are longer than older models, but not super long like the current ones. Also features my fav Rivendell lug set. Head tube lugs are more ornate than the newer version. -Ride. The bike is fun and lively unloaded, but loaded is where it really shines. I’ve done some heavy loaded touring on mine and it was just a dream. I guess this is a given with the Atlantis. I waited over a year for mine and paid full American prices for the frame and I’ve felt that it was worth it. This is a steal! [RBW] Re: New Roadini or hang on to Sam
I commute on a Sam and love it. I’ve test ridden a Roadini for about an hour, and now I can’t get that bike out of my head. I don’t know if it’s just because it didn’t have all the heavy commuter gear, but it felt real quick and springy compared to Sam. Oh, and still smth.
