Re: [RBW] Cameras On Bikes

2024-05-15 Thread jamin orrall
Yes I have been using the Olympus C-7070 for color photos, though mine is a
lot more compact than that one (no battery grip) and it was not 100
dollars!

I use a flip phone so a dedicated camera is essential if I want to take
photos. It actually takes great pictures, shoots fully manual and in raw.
It's hard to say why I am so drawn to it, I like the shape, it feels very
rugged and the lens is actually really nice. The colors are nicer to me
than some new digital cameras, and it's not overly sharp.

All that said I shoot about a roll every two weeks of black and white film.
I roll my own canisters and process/scan at home. No printing right now
because I don't have a darkroom. I shoot with a leica m4 or nikon f2
mostly but on the bike I often take an Olympus XA2.

2024-05-15 Thread jamin orrall
Keith, John, thank you for the compliments. Yes it is a custom color, I
can't take credit for it! It was formerly owned by another member of this
list named James, he had it repainted at Waterford (where the frame was
made). I believe it is a 2014 model. I love how it looks in the sun.
 Always loved Jimmy Carters riv!

[RBW] San Francisco to Arcata touring recommendations

2023-04-08 Thread jamin orrall
Howdy! I am doing a short little bike tour from San Francisco (Amtrak
station) to Arcata California in a week or so on my Homer Hilsen. Anyone
have any tips or recommendations? Wondering if I should just stick to the
PCH or try some other roads. FYI I have ridden from Bodega Bay to LA so I
have some experience on the coastal route but not that far north. I will
be camping with a very light road.

Thanks Eric! I appreciate all your contributions to this forum.

Thank you Shoji, I bought the frames secondhand from 2 different owners. By
coincidence I ended up with 2 Waterfords with custom paint that I did not
pick but I am enjoying the colors as well, they really blend in with the
landscape.

I have two stems:

Nitto lugged 80mm, 26.0 clamp
Nitto technomic deluxe (not the tallux) 80mm, 26.0 clamp

I am looking for 90mm versions of both of these, want to trade? I can send
pictures if you are interested.

Thanks!

Re: [RBW] Your Road or Road-ish Riv Rubber Radius (tire width)

2022-08-09 Thread jamin orrall
Thanks Eric! It is a sun xcd with 44/28 rings, suntour cyclone up front
and 9 speed ultegra in the back. The lugged stem makes me so happy every
time I ride. I bought the bike from a list member and rebuilt it with
parts I had been saving. I was deep into the old riv readers while putting
it together as you can probably tell from the general vibe. The suntour
barcons are my favorite shifters of all time, and I have tried many bar
ends. Aside from their smooth shifting and durability they have a smooth
top, most others have an exposed joint which I find uncomfortable.

[RBW] Re: What's your biggest tire on AH Hilsen?

2022-06-15 Thread jamin orrall
Curious about this as well... I have a 2011 waterford homer. I purchased
it complete off a list member here and then rebuilt it with parts I had
been saving. Running 38mm panaracer pasela tires on 700c mavic open pro
rims (Not recommended, I know). There is plenty of room for fenders but
looking at the clearance at the chainstays I wouldn't push it much much
more (definitely not on these rims). Could maybe fit a 40mm tire. I will
say that I think fire roads are a blast on a 38mm tire. I will also say
that this is the most comfortable bike I have ever owned.
